A theory about Russian models

As probably everyone knows I work for a program that uses a lot of Eastern European models and one of the questions I get asked often from both webmasters and customers is something along these lines;

"Are ALL your models legally old enough to be doing adult?"

there are variations of this question of course but that is what it breaks down to. My answer is that Everything in our family of sites is 100% 2257 compliant as the law is enforceable today.

But it got me thinking.... 'WHY is it that these girls, every single one of them over the age of 18 and where the photographer is NOT doing anything special to make them look younger, why do they either appear to be borderline or maybe even illegal to these western eyes?

So here is my theory and see if anyone else agrees or disagrees. I think that people who live in wealthy western countries have a diet higher in trans fat and things like high fructose corn syrup, mono sodium glutamate(sic) and such. Because of this our boys and our girls mature physically faster then those in less wealthy countries.

as an example. My 17 year old son is taller then me and has considerably more facial hair then I had at his age. It could be genes from his mothers side by it isn't like she is of Italian or Greek descent. Thats not a racist remark, thems some hairy peeps! He has a girlfriend that is a bit younger then him but who has developed very early and could pass for 20 or something... she doesn't act that old, shes a kid and with me at 40 she seems very immature, but she could pass to an outsider as a girl much older then her age.

Of course we get models that look young because they are teen sites after all, but even at 21 some of our models can cause the casual observer to go 'Whoa!' at first.

so what do you think of my theory, is it gold or pure crap?

I think the "healthy lifestyle" is a pretty strong factor but your last, passing thought seems most probable.

If you're purposefully selecting talent to meet a specific trait it only makes sense that people are going to notice that trait and be impressed by how often it seems to happen. You're stacking the deck.

i wanted to answer this but i wont, i have an 12 year old bleu eyed blonde hair dutch daughter who looks older and if i answer your question i will show my mom side and thats realy a very bad and evil one if it concerns (or how you name that) making girls looking younger, i think if you had or have a daughter you will think different

I always though it was the hormones in our beef cattle.

I think your diet theory might explain why East-European models seem emaciated to us, but not their youthful looks. Also, these corn based foods (the list is staggering) create cheaper (less expensive) food options, not limiting them to the wealthy at all. The argument that our people are over nourished works just the same as the argument that Eastern European women are malnourished.

Japan is one of the richest nations in the world. The Japanese people are not obese, and models from there often appear decades younger than their biological age; so the theory does not pass on the wealth factor either.

Much of it has to do with perception and nature. Eighteen year old girls in your country may often posess relatively curveless bodies, large eyes, coltish legs and small jaws, which North Americans associate with our own pre-pubescent girls.

btw it are not only russian gilrls looking that way, compair with usa all european countries girls are looking small and thin........usa peope are just eating to much junk food:D nothing to do with diet and all that chit, Mc donalds they have in every eurpean country, also the russian...and i am probably talking bulshit, but who cares....my point ,russian , spanish, for us european all are the same no different, the russian girls look a like you also can find in every european country , but no reason to make them look younger.....if so then you have a problem...in your brain:D

As Virgohippy said... it's all about stacking the deck. I bet that if you look at the population of eastern Europe as a whole they don't all look like that. They pick the ones that "fit the profile" for their sites. Simple as that.

spazlabz 2007-03-17 10:11 PM

So far this has been a pretty good discussion I hope more people come in with their opinions as well.

I think I may have misstated the whole wealthy thing. Having never visited Russia or the Ukraine or any of what would have been considered old Iron Curtain countries, i absolutely cannot say what they do or do not have available for their daily nutrition.

I just assumed that countries like the US where we have an over abundance of food... especially what is term convenience foods, might have an impact on the development that our youth have physically.

this actually almost makes my point. Much has been reported about the differences between the far east's diets and the ones we Americans have and how the Japanese in particular are so much more youthful and healthy then their American counterparts. There has even been reports I have seen on TV (please don't ask me where or when) about how the Japanese youth are starting to develop the habits the American youth have and the detrimental effect it is having on them :)

I think it's because Western people are used to looking at other Western people & pretty much most of the European men & women look different than us, therefore we have no idea of age.

It's that or the wallpaper |couch|

I agree and believe that alot of it does go to the diet and even the European lifestyle which is much more laid back and than here in the USA.

SirMoby 2007-03-20 12:05 AM

I love Eastern European women! Diet, healthful exercise (walking and carrying things) and simply not burning themselves under the sun are very important factors.

Another factor is that they tend to have much better skin and peaches and cream type complexions. Even though 2nd and 3rd generation EE women that I know often have that wonderful complexion that keeps them looking young forever.

RedCherry 2007-03-20 12:23 PM

I lived in Hawaii many years, and I remember in college coming across a study of why Japanese women were small breasted because of lack of dairy products in their diet as young people. (the older generations) and the younger generations, that are adopting the american diet, you see them more "developed". HI as a state also had the highest average age at death due to the high percentage of asians eating very healthy diets. Goes along with what emmanuelle said.

Maybe EE girls also don't do a lot of dairy when they are young? I know dairy as a whole is pretty horrible for you anyways, it is made for cows not people, lol.

And I agree with the hormones. I've also heard about growth hormones given to beef, pigs, not sure on chickens in America. Who is to say that it isn't transferring when you eat them and making kids grow faster or develop sooner?

During my previous visits to the US with my friends everybody estimated us 22-23 while we're all 5 years older than that. I also think it's just because European people and American people look different that it might seem those russian girls look borderline.

Shade 2007-03-20 01:33 PM

Bah i think it has more to do with people thinking that they can just fake their passport or ID.

Think if I start eating meat my cock'll develop faster?

Vivaldi 2007-03-21 06:05 AM

Genetics, as #1, and cultural differences are the main reasons. I live in eastern Europe and frankly to me, those 'teen' models, don't look borderline at all ... must be the fact that I see them every day on the street ;-)
It's how You/we see and value 'things' in (and from) our own culture perspective. Don't get me wrong, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but there is a general opinion (at least here) that Americans have weight problems from all that junk food of course … Oh, and add to all this prejudice as well.

I like to read about genealogy and anthropology so I think about stuff like this from time to time.

I think East European models do look too young. Maybe they just choose them that way, who knows. I don’t use programs from East Europe or Asia for that reason. It gives me peace of mind to stick with American/Canadian programs that do their productions here. When I promote “Asian” I like to stick with models of Asian heritage who work in America with American/Canadian production companies. They look as old as I expect them to be. But models from Asian countries like Japan or the Philippines look too young to my western eyes so I am not comfortable promoting them. And throw on top of that I don't know the laws in that part of the world and have no idea how they regulate, if they do at all, their industry so I just stay away from it.

I’m 25 and I still get ID’d for liquor (19 is the legal drinking age.) It used to piss me off, now I get pissed if I don’t get ID’d. I’m Canadian. My family history on one side is a lot of Scottish/British/Dutch/etc. and on my father’s, depending on who you ask, it’s the European fruit punch with a squirt of First Nations (or North American Indian as some people still call them) thrown into the mix.

East Europeans definitely seem to have a different “look” about them as far as my judgment is concerned. One day for whatever reason I was thinking to myself: “William Shatner almost looks like he could have come from Russia” then I looked up his bio and learned his parents are both of Ukrainian decent. So I wasn’t too far off (he’s my favorite Canadian celebrity by the way :)

If I had to guess it’s less their diet and more their genetics. The movement of people from Western Europe to the Americas has mixed things up a bit over the past few hundred years. But I’m not a geneticist. I had a British neighbor once and he looked like everyone else on the block so who knows :D

Sarah_Jayne 2007-03-22 08:33 AM

I have considered starting a wallpaper fetish site with all that Russian content to see if I could pull it off.

Ashley 2007-03-22 09:04 AM

So about all this est European girls , remember they were living under Communist all this years . I was born in a Communist country aswell .. and all is about diet . Now 10 years ago , a family with 2 kids were allow at just 1 kg of sugar per month , not more . The cakes were staying in the windows but nobody dare to buy them because were too expensive . I was eating sweets 2 times per year .. X_mas and Easter . And all this time i do not really remember to eat any kind of fat , all were substitute . Anyway that's my theory . Have a good one .
