FSC Sent this out earlier:

NOTES FROM THE ICANN MEETING IN LISBON

FSC BOARD CHAIR, JEFFREY DOUGLAS AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DIANE DUKE

WOO HOO!!!!!! It is Friday morning, and in a FINAL decision ICANN rejected ICM’s Proposal for a .XXX top level domain. It has been brutal folks. We have worked from dawn till dusk and beyond trying to get our message to as many as possible.

That message:
ICANN should not get involved in issues of content and censorship, there exist public policy ramifications with a .xxx TLD and finally, there does not exist support for and in fact there exists outright opposition to, a .XXX TLD amongst the adult entertainment industry.

It was noteworthy that in the only public forum on the topic, ICM Registry’s attorney, flown in specially for that debate, felt it necessary to attack the Free Speech Coalition, and by implication, its membership. For instance, he claimed falsely that FSC’s first rejection of ICM Registry’s proposal was based solely on a failed attempt to have complete control of the dot xxx process. His unwarranted and dishonest comments ultimately reflected badly on ICM Registry

Mr Lawley is in the bar, seriously sulking, and has sent his “emergency attorney” to inform us that they were granted an order from the Federal District Court requiring that the Federal government provide some of ICM Registry’s FOIA requests. That means that they will be given some or all communications between the federal government and ICANN. This indicates ICM’s intent to sue ICANN. It took a great deal of courage for ICANN to make this decision as they were all very aware of Stuart Lawley’s intent to sue if the decision didn’t go in his favor.

Your support enabled us to do this important work. This victory is yours—again, thank you.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey and Diane
Free Speech Coalition

I am amused that he is going to try to sue over it.

He has too much money invested at this point to just walk away.

Just think what he could do if he put just as much energy into something that was actually going to happen.
