Why don't all sponsors offer the option of email notification of sales?

I really enjoy getting those "You just made a sale" emails from the sponsors that offer them.

It just makes me wonder why this isn't the standard practice - I'd love to receive an email with sale information, including the referrer, renewals if it's a partnership sale, and so forth, from every sponsor for every sale or renewal. (Most "You just made a sale" letters now contain too little information.)

It couldn't be that difficult to accomplish.

It would make sales research easier, especially studying referrers. Saves time. And it's cheery to see those sale emails.

I notice that in the past two years I've moved towards sponsors that provide that kind of service.

Currently i am using mostly a few story sponsors and a few others. I haven't noticed any of them offering emailed notices of sales, at least from the ones i have had sales with, but would love to get them as well.

Checking stats periodically can't be replaced, but i could imagine the notifications really helping you keep track of them better, as well as give you that nice, warm fuzzy feeling you get from knowing you got another sale :)

I'd love to know some of the programs that DO offer the emails.

oldbrad, try

Niched Sites
Blazing Bucks
Fetish Hits

For Fetish Hits you have to select signup emails in the admin; the other two default to sending them.

I like these emails too by the way, though I can imagine they would be a little annoying if I was making 20 sales a day

Always someone there to argue, eh? Ok, maybe it wouldn't then. Hell if I know. What if you made 500 sales a day every day, would you still prefer to receive 500 emails in your mailbox every single day?

This is a lame discussion anyway. You win! |thumb

I suppose it's safe to assume that the sponsors who offer these mails have the option to turn them on or off?

I know I will have that option as soon as my coder is done with his stuff..

Lisa 2007-04-07 07:50 AM

We offer that...and yes you can turn them on or off.

Happy Easter! :)

I'm thinking that the only reason some have it on is that it's a default feature in their affiliate admin. It's sorta like thanking Jim & I for letting you know that someone replied to your post |jester|

Can you ask someone to kick you in the shin for me? :D

The last thing this thread needs is a |spam|fest - lol

Didn't mean for it to be taken in a negattive way but as more of a joke. I just meant that we would be so happy to get 20 sales a day that we wouldn't care about anything else.

Well I know I wouldn't :)

P.S We need more smilies. Things typed on boards can be taken to many ways.

I couldn't agree more. I've received a few (too few) of those Emails and its a pleasure to get them. Too few sponsors do it. |bananna|

Now that I think about it I would say its so you login to check your stats. That way you can see new sites, new content, keep you focus on promoting there program.

If you were to get emails all the time you wouldnt go to the site as much.

Just a thought.

oldbrad 2007-04-07 05:11 PM

Sorry about that GG lol.

I'm sure i'll take a couple head kicks tonight just for you |thumb

I actually do push fetishhits and guess i didn't have it selected so i'll fix that.

I cant pass this :)
Niche Castle is one of those, and you are right, those mails are always nice to get.

babymaker 2007-04-07 09:19 PM

all nats programs have that feature, i love it esspecially when i get like 4 in a row from same site, it gives me more reason to keep pushing them while they are hot.

Allfetish 2007-04-08 02:09 PM

I like it as well. Even in the cases where it only states that you made a sale for site X and X amount of dollars. But the more details, almost always the better. I wish I received more of these "love emails". ;)

Mish 2007-04-09 12:34 PM

I agree that it's a great function of an affiliate program, but to point out one technical issue from the perspective of the sponsor -

Addressing the 20 emails per day issue - a big problem with this is the actual email address itself. A lot of people, affiliates included, use free email accounts like yahoo, hotmail, etc.

Those mailsevers and even Comcast and AOL are extremly spam sensitive. No one knows their algorithim (for spam) but I bet if you sent out even 20 of these (almost identical emails) the originating mail server would be shut down - for spamming.

I would definitely be curious to know how other programs do it without being flagged.

Jel 2007-04-10 03:19 AM

I think they're a pain in the ass. Viva la stats remote :)

SirMoby 2007-04-11 10:54 AM

At the top of my AVS days I would get an email every sale and it gets to the point where they go ignored and just need to be deleted, kind of like spam. Getting 10, 20, 50 or more emails a day becomes annoying, stops your general work flow and in the end becomes unproductive.

I do like getting daily emails of yesterday's sales. Sitting down with a cup of coffee and seeing those numbers is kind of nice but it doesn't really change my day.

At Fetish Hits you can turn it on or off in the admin

JackDaniel's 2007-04-17 08:48 AM

Now I know how it feels to receive such an email :D

I just got one from niched sites :D

I agree that it's definitely a personal preference and depends on how much traffic you are sending one site! With our new affiliate site (launching very soon) we have to the option to turn email notification on or off, in addition to yesterday, today, and month-to-date sales recap available on the landing page when you log into your account.

CelebCashJoe 2007-04-17 04:58 PM

We just started offering the email notification of sales. The response has been great so far.
