How to read Alexa rating?

Is a higher number good or a lower number? Where can I find more about 'Alexa' and why is it important at all?

Search the forum for alexa.

It's great to tell you how many people, with the alexa toolbar, are surfing your site. Using that info you can tell how many people with the toolbar surf your site.

It's not a good traffic barometer because you do need to have the tb installed to be counted, so i've heard webmaster sites are usually the ones to benefit from alexa because more of the surfers (other webmasters) are likely to have it installed.

Yep, Alexa is nice and pretty, and can make you feel quite nice for a moment.
My hub/fake linklist thing, http://www.pynio.com/ has a nice Alexa traffic rank of 53,327 at the moment. That's very low when you think how many domains are out there, but the number is only impressive if you don't understand the nuts and bolts of how it works.
That domain has over 250 of my freesites on it and I've been submitting them all over the place for just over a year - which explains why it looks like my little site is popular.

Loads of porn-surfers visit my freesites, but as far as being ranked the 53,327th most popular site online - and that's what giving a traffic rank number indicates - no way.
It impressed my wife when showed her the number, but didn't impress her enough for her to give me a blowjob.

i'm in this biz for a few years now and i also still do not know how to read it exactly. the only thing i know is the lower the number the better like JackDaniel said. But anyway, it's not very crucial to know about to succeed online. ;)

My Alexa rating went up from 7.5 millionth to 3.25 millionth. If I get three friends to install Alexa, I can probably go to under one millionth. None of which is enough to impress the wife.... she says a Hermes bag will do nicely though. |bananna|

great barometer

Alexa is a great barometer to determine credibility. It's allways good to know who is honest. I'd wrather do biz with someone who does not overstate his stats but tells the truth. It easier to help them grow and the
attendant corporte-karma grows summarily.

Go look at greenguysboard.com vs tommys-bookmarks.com & you'll be able to see why this statement is true.

My site hottiehaven.com only gets like....16 hits per day because I havent done ANYTHING to promote it yet. This is my first site so Ive been just basically testing a lot of stuff on it. I think my rating is up to 453,888 on alexa right now. I always wondered how the hell that happened.
