I saw those guys when i worked for syngenta in basel.

Fasnacht fire festival in Liestal

This is the fire festival. It kicks off around 8pm and for an hour or more they drag burning carts through the streets with flames reaching the 3rd floor in height. You also get people carrying piles of burning sticks and after a general get together round the bars later, things quieten down until about 4am the next day when the basel Fasnacht gets going.

Basically the whole town closes for three days solid and parties. The bars make a fortune and closed shops sometimes open as bars too. These crazy marching bands will go anywhere even through the bars.
It's insane the costumes are different every year and you have to be swiss born to be in one of the bands. It's worth seeing if your ever over there around easter just to see how crazy it gets.
