Pet Peeve: Sponsors with "cash", "revenue" in the link url.

I don't get this at all. What I am talking about is sponsors with links that look like "http://pimpingbigbucks.xyz/click_here_so_i_can_get_rich/blingbling.cgi?bigpimpin"

As if this makes the surfer want to click on it. Sure only 10% or less will actually notice, but what is with this? Wouldn't it make more sense to try to hide that there is an affiliate relationship as much as possible and to perhaps try to even make the url enticing to the potential customer?

You know, like:

I realize you can do a mouseover but does anyone else out there agree?

that's something that drives me insane - is it that hard to get a domain for the galleries?

Greenguy 2007-05-25 08:50 AM

I've always hated that - I like it when it's the domain of the paysite & whatever else they want to throw on the end for tracking purposes.

That's the reason I started to use mouseovers all those years ago.

Hehe, I understand what is bothering you, but actually the solution to this is quite easy. Instead of using JavaScript to hide the hover, you can make this go through a redirect script or meta redirect page. Like for example a page with the following HTML:

Code:

Don't blame the sponsors for having names :D

True, true. It is ust one of those things where I wonder why they do it. You know. I recall a study some time ago. It was shown that essentially whenever people are reminded of money, it tends to make them cheaper than they otherwise would be if not in that mindset initially. You have to wonder how much as a percentage is lost in sales due to all the "BLING, BLING stuff" all over the place. Much better to keep them focused on the SEX with the money as a minimal afterthought I'd think.

"Here's 20GB of HOT TEEN porn.... So much it will keep you busy for YEARS oh, yeah, almost forgot, it is a mere $20 mr. surfer for all of this! think of all the babes in there."

or

"BLING, BLING! I'm the pimp! Give me your $20 so I can get a new BMW and then I will let you in. But I need my dough! Gotta get the money. Pay up." :D ;)

I do use mouse overs (not enough), but what about the places you can't - i.e. free sites, galleries? Also do you think some surfers think a mouseover is a warning sign? Just curious

Yes, i think so. I mean if you usually notice that when you click on a url where the status bar displays something other than a normal looking URL that you end up getting pop up hell, then you might put two and two together. The safest mouseover is probably to use the root domain url.

All great points. We chose 4realcash.com mostly to let affilates know that we are an affiliate program. Our galleries have always been at 4realgals.com however when we switched to use mpa3, all the galleries run through 4realcash.com first for tracking purposes.

I don't think anyone cares if you use them properly - meaning that you mouse over this:
http://links.pimproll.com/?s=megasit...mp2144&j=6&c=1
so that this appears in the status bar:
http://www.megasitepass.com/

It's the blind or sales text mouseovers that get you in trouble with LL's & TGP's.

thanks, that makese a lot of sense

One of the main things I learned in years of face to face sales is that you should never talk about money, it hurts to spend money, talk about passwords, access, privileges, enjoyment!
And always focus on the benefits, fuck the cost, that's just a small technicality on the way to the benefits!!

The most successful companies in this or any biz realise this simple truth, "Focus on the need that brought them here!" Any distractions give the person/surfer/customer a possible out. Close the exits, close the sale.

Telemarketing works in a similar way too. |thumb

Tell them how well you can give them what they want. I don't think most people WANT their money seperated from them. |loony|
