Wordpress Gallery Builder

Some of you might be interested in this wordpress plugin. This isn't my software and there's no referral links. I'm just really happy with it.

http://uusoftware.com/

It generates a picture gallery on your wordpress blog. You can either upload a set of pics, or it can rip the fullsize pics from a gallery. It then crops the thumbnails, adds alt tags and links each thumb to a full-size picture page.

Here's a sample of the plugin in action:

http://www.thegirlswelove.com

It's very easy to use. Once you get it setup, it takes just 2-3 minutes to make a post. And the script author is very helpful if you have any problems.

The plug-in isn't cheap (there's a free trial). And I hate paying for software. But it makes posting so easy. I've got it running on 3 blogs right now, and it only takes me a few minutes each day to update them. I think it was a good investment.

Anyways, just wanted to give a heads up.

Dude, that was a seriously nifty piece of software! I can see a new life for my half-dead splogs coming from this. Thanks for the link! |thumb

This plugin looks good :) When I have more time I`ll try it.

and it fucked everything up.

I'm playing around with this plugin right now and I'm actually pretty impressed (partly because I was able to install it without any problems and it works fine just out of the box).

Buncha, how are you able to put a banner smack in the middle of your thumbs? I tried

I've downgraded my enthusiasm to lukewarm. :(

Are you guys using the gallery grabber function? And if so are you using it successfully? I gotta say, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and I'll be damned if I can figure out why.

I guess I'll shoot the author an e-mail and see what he says.

Buncha 2007-05-29 07:39 PM

Hi Lemmy. Here's my template. It gives me 5 sets of 3 thumbs across (each 145px wide). Depending on the pics, I often tweak the Thumb height and the Big width.

Quote:

PathToGal = myimages/chick1
ThumbHxW = 200x145
BigHxW = 9999x700
ThumbAlt = Thumb Alt1;Thumb Alt2;Thumb Alt3;And so on4;And so on5

I had a problem with the gallery grabber at first. But it was a problem with my host. Dreamhost runs some proprietary programs that aren't compatible with many scripts. I emailed the author, and he had it fixed in a few hours (I think he added CURL support).

But I personally don't like using the gallery grabber. Most FHG galleries use full size pictures that are a mix of wide and tall images. The thumbs look good on the FHG gallery, because they're hand cropped. This software autocrops thumbs. So you'll end up with thumbnails of a bellybutton or a knee.

My preferred method is to get a image set and choose the best 12-15 pics that will autocrop well. It only takes a minute to select the pics and upload them.

My preferred method is the same :) And I run a Pshop batch action first so the selected big pics are only 600 wide saving on BW and still looking good.

Thanks for that template example Buncha. I've been in touch with Paul and you're right, he is a helpful guy. Nothing wrong with the software, but I have a tendency to overcomplicate things. I'm getting the hang of it now.

Unlike you and digifan I'm gonna go for grabbing. I'm done with pretty and aim for fast & easy. :D

I may try it soon as well, I have to upgrade first. Good luck |waves|

Looks like the next update is coming soon. Just checked out the website and there's some new info and features listed. I requested a lot of these features a few weeks back (although I'm sure everyone requested them). Glad to see the author is listening to his customers.

It looks like there'll be a visual interface, manual cropping, using zip files, different banners for different galleries on the full size image viewer, customizable thumb/image names, and more.

This is really going to kick things up a notch.

Just wanted to post a follow-up. I've been using the latest version on a few blogs, and it's really amazing. The manual cropping and unique banners on the image viewer makes a huge difference.

If you haven't upgraded yet, do it now. It'll really improve your blog. This software has brought new life to some of my old blogs. It's probably one of the best investments I've made.
