Newbie in 2007: where to get started?
Hello everyone, I am a newbie with an interesting backstory:
Back in the 90s, I licensed content from adultlegal and broadcast it on ifriends (they used to allow prerecorded video). 2 years later, I had a fully outfitted server room in my house with about 100 feeds going at once to ifriends. Needless to say, I was making money hand over fist at about 23 years old. About a year after that, Ifriends stopped accepting prerecorded content. I also had a decent amount of revenue from some niche phonesex numbers I had tied into my ifriends niches. I sold my servers, got rid of my equipment, and got a day job. The revenue from the phonesex dried up because I didnt have the loads of ifriends traffic to push the numbers. Now Im back, and boy have things changed. I have spent about 2 days reading the stuff on here to try to get a feel for how things work now. I think I have a vague idea, but I am still confused about what to do first as a newbie... tgp? freesite? blog? how do link lists play into all this? what about link exchanges? I don't even know where to start. All signs seem to be pointed toward starting a free site a day and submitting it, but to where? link lists? tgp? Is a freesite what you submit to a tgp? or is the tgp stuff something different? What about seo? Where do I submit my freesite? Is there a list of places to submit? Is there a way to automate or semi automate the process? As you can see, I am very confused on where to start and even a lot of jargon has me confused (is there a glossary I can look at to see the abbreviations people are using?). I love porn, I love sex. I'm technical in nature (my day job is an engineer at a well known internet company). I'm a poor designer, but I think I can easily follow some good design principles and make perfectly serviceable sites. If anyone could give me a rough guide of the steps in the proper order, it would be much appreciated. -Dragonfly08 |
hiya and welcome to a great board.
A free site a day is great way to start out and get learning the business 07. Free sites are submitted to links lists where as galleries go to tgp’s. A good example to start at is link-o-rama.com and if you follow the rules there your sites will get listed at most places, also try the resources section here for more links lists. |
Thanks Andy
Thanks Andy. That clarifies things for me.

Hi and welcome Dragonfly08!
Yep, things have changed a lot and they're still changing:) As AndyS says, submitting Free Sites to LLs is a good way to start and Link O'Rama's rules are the basic standard that most of us work to. If you're not sure about your first efforts, give the URL here and you'll soon be put on the right track. Submitting a FS each day will make you money, will get your name known and will give you a chance to have a look round at the other possible avenues - Blogs, TGPs, LLs etc. Do your submissions manually initially and treat automation with great care - the majority of LL's are very wary of automated submits. |
Free Content or Licensed Content
For my free site, is it better to use free content provided by my sponsors, or is it better to use content that I paid for?

hello there!!!..
you have such a nice story bro... anyway, you're so much welcome...have fun in here!.. |
If you already have content I would use it. Using your own means you can use any sponsor you like, whereas sponsor content ties you to that sponsor.

Thanks!
Thanks! I'm working on my first paysite right now. When it is finished, I will let the group critique.

Pretty forthcoming dragonfly and I respect that. I'm by no means an expert, I first joined GG&J in 2005 and then basically stayed away from the board for about 2 years. I did it the hard way...on my own...I was doing all kinds of crazy stuff from laborous static pages, then I got into moveabletype blogs and then I discovered wordpress blogs and then I discovered tgp rotator by jmbsoft and I made a little cash doing a lot of work neglecting my dog and my sleep...so then I started reading the board and then now I've become active posting and reading regularly. It's great. I've learned this community isn't a bunch of dicks. I think it's mostly because adult content sells itself and there's so many consumers that we don't have to be cut throat. I'm an affiliate, not a content producer so I won't speak about that aspect because I don't know anything about it. But the affiliate stuff I'm learning more and more about everyday and growing my projects and trying to do them smarter with less manual labor. All I can say is ask questions...post some of your work and the experienced ones will correct you. Myself, I haven't posted any of my freesites or galleries, I'm still dialing in my methodology, but they're coming. You just gotta start doing shit and sharing it and you'll figure out what works...

I meant to say...
I just re-read my post. I meant to say I am working on my first *free* site right now. Somehow that came out of my fingers as paysite... sheesh.
