Played around with the iPhone today

Had to run over to Sephora to get some makeup and stuff and there is an Apple store in the same mall so I went in and checked out the iPhone.

The phone is a lot smaller then I thought it would be and feels very solid and well made. The fit and finish on it is exquisite. It looks and feels like a piece of fine jewelry.

Took me like 2 seconds to figure out how to use it and the first thing I did was open Safari and start surfing the web.

Typing on it is fantastic and I found myself using my thumbs right away to type with. When looking to see if I had spelled something correctly in the address bar a magnifier comes up over the text and follows your finger so that you can easily read the text.

I was using the Apple store's WiFi to surf so surfing was super fast, as is the whole interface, but I've heard that EDGE is painfully slow. Living were I do WiFi is everywhere so this would not be that big of a deal for me.

Christine found the IM program and was IM people right away and also loved the keyboard. She called her cell phone from it and we tried calling it back to fuck with whoever picked it up but the calls went to voice mail. 408-421-2709 is its number if anyone wants to have some fun maybe. |jester|

The built-in camera sucks with no zoom and hideous color in anything but very bright light. :(

They have plenty of the 8 gig models in stock. |thumb

Using Safari I opened up one of the iPod movies that is on Angel's server and it played almost instantly but a few pixels on each side of the movie was cut off. I bookedmarked the movie and left it playing for the next customer to enjoy. :D

LMAO.. straight from the Tommy school of gorilla marketing..

I saw one yesterday ..my friend from the Palms had one .. it feels really nice and i agree about the look and feel. I'm not so good at "thumbing" but he says he only uses the net portion at work because outside of there it's like dial up.

we are sooo spoiled, eh?

Yea when I was in new york I went into the soho store and played with one. Very good stuff. Right now I have a cingular 8125 and the network is painfully slow so won't be any difference. See what kinda updates they do to safari. I know they have or are working on getting flash functioning in it. Couple more upgrades to things and a little price reduction on it and I'll be on board. :)

Cheers,
B

The phone has some issues that will probably be addressed with software updates like Flash support, doesn't remember passwords for WiFi, no copy and paste, no disk mode, a lame notes app, and some others but I think it will take new hardware to add 3G support.

I would expect them to be responsive with deviering upgrades quickly.

Is there a way to buy one free of contract?

I think the iPhones are incredible but it's sort of a bummer that they only hold 4GB of MP3s. I have an 80GB iPod that's almost filled and it would be killer if they had an 80GB iPhone....but I can only imagine what that would cost!
