Models and Model Train Fans Around?
I love working on models and have been planning a huge train set with toys and stuff I bought off Ebay. My toy collection is 7ft high10 ft wide and 4ft deep. That's at one end of the studio. More stuff back home in other storage.
Bought some train sets and was going to buy more. Just wanted to know if any model toy/model toy train afficianados around here? |
I love model trains, wouldn't call myself an aficionado though. My dream is to build a big layout and run some trains on it.

I love trains. But the last real set I had setup was when I was about 15. It was really nice and ran 3 trains on the same tracks with different controllers. Right now, I have 7 old sets my wife bought me for Christmas about 8 years ago.

I knew it! I'm finding many webmeisters who are train fans.
I bought some monorail sets a few years ago. Broke my heart to sell them a few months later though. I had planned to use them for a major thru house set. Now the things are worth a fortune. Maybe a new toy company will come out with new monorail sets. I want to make a kick ass giant terrarium and hot tub in the new house and a train set would rock there too. I have some Herculoid toys that will fit in that bad boy realll nice :) |
Cartoons and toy trains? What's next, b*rbie dolls?

Especially Barbie Dolls. If you had a collection of the originals well up into 1965 you could buy a house with them. |

About the only thing I collect is dust, but I'd be interested to see some pics of your collection if you've got em.
When I was a little crumb snatcher, I got a working model steam locomotive for Christmas. It was made out of copper and steel. Plastic wasn't invented yet. :D It didn't go anywhere, but you could put some cotton soaked in lighter fluid in the tinder box, fill it up with water and it would huff and puff and make the wheels turn. It scared the crap out of me at first, but I always thought it was cool. These days it would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. |

Ah, the days when they made toys specifically designed to put someone's eye out! They don't make em' like that anymore. Ah the good ol' days :) |
When I was a kid, I had a friend who wasn't allowed to play with me anymore because when I tossed a lawn dart his way, he caught it.
Wait...is it still called "catching it" when it stabs you in the palm? |

They're just sucking the competitive spirit right out of everyone and everything. |
Ahhh...good ol' Jartz. Just about as fun as single-pump BB gun wars!
I had an uncle who had a ton of HO scales set up in his basement. I used to drool over those things, and now that I'm all grown up and my son will be 5 in Oct, I'm thinking about setting something up in my basement. Problem is ~ I just bought him/us a $300 Traxxas Bandit RC car. Now, THAT thing is a friggin' blast!! You can actually adjust camber/toe for conditions...and the thing'll do 35 MPH! Its also quite durable since I watched in absolute horror as my son drove straight into an island in the middle of a parking lot at full speed. I saw $300 flushing away as I walked toward the thing only to find a scratch on the skid-plate and screw. Put the body back on, turned the Electronic Speed Control to 50% and said, okay - try again. At least the trains shouldn't be so gonzo.....well, not unless you wanna have a little fun! |
