Okay, so I'm dead serious about starting a sucessfull link list.
Got a couple of questions for the vets.

Here's my plan:

1. Make a site: design + scripts.
2. Accquire high PageRank (got a lot of my own sites to link from)
3. When I got high PR ask webmasteres to submit to me.
4. Buy lots of traffic from traffic brokers.


How does it sound ?
Any suggestions ?
How to make it grow ?
Should I focus on trades or rely only on Bookmarkers at first ?

Any advice is appreciated.

Dark Jedi...As a newbie LL owner and a older freesite submitter I would suggest not asking for category recips right away. A lot of submitters will not submit to your site when they have to change the recips for every niche they build. Especially when your site is new and they know you don't have a lot of traffic yet. In my opinion you'll get a lot more submits if you start out with a nice text link recip. Also, I personally do not buy traffic. Just build good quality free sites with your recip mixed into the recips and maybe a link on the main page and each of the gallery pages. Just make sure you don't go over the standard 3 links per page rule. Just my $.02.

I wouldn't worry too much about PR right off the bat. I could care less about a link lists PR if it's sending me a decent amount of traffic :)

Using your own traffic is a very good thing to get the ball rolling. Personally, I've never bought traffic to push the start of a link list or TGP (thinking it might be a waste to buy traffic that you'd just send out to people for free) but it might be a good idea to get a fan base going :)

Do you have your own free sites where you could fill up the category pages & make the site look full & attractive to a surfer once you get it open?

Hi DarkJedi, welcome to the board.

Link lists work different than TGPs. Buying traffic may not be the solution but still not a bad idea to kick some traffic through it. The big thing with link lists is the SE traffic because there are so many pages all inter linked. Even small link lists see SE traffic so you need to build it over time and let the SEs come to it. Generally traffic trades do not work that well with a link list as far as moving any real traffic amounts around.

Getting submissions is tough but there are places for solving that problem.

I'd keep it clean and with easy to find links to start to get those bookmarkers.

I mentioned PR because i know a lot of webmasters like to get listed at High PR sites - so their freesites grow PR too and get some SE traffic. I figured having a high PR site would increase webmaster submitions (and possibple get some SE traffic)

The idea to buy traffic was exaclty for building bookmarkers and attracting webmasters submitions.

I don't have my own free sites, but I was wondering if it was possible to ask existing Link List owners to "lend" me their links for some time :)

Also, could anyone please give me some ideas on how Traffic Trading works among LL owners ? (Perm links, scripted trades, where to place trade links withing my site etc. - any advice is appreciated)

I'm sure a lot of people will send you their free sites to get you started - only drawback is there won't be any recips on them :(

As far as traffic trading, I have a Top 20 list as well as a handful of smaller trades on the main page (along with trades between my own sites - LOL) A lot of people use hard links, a lot of people use scripts - it's pretty much the same as trading with TGP's

I promote my link list the way I would promote a sponsor in the free sites and galleries that I do.

I've bought gallery spots and promoted my link list in the galleries with pretty good results both in traffic and sales.

I could care less about PR, but do pay close attention to my traffic trends and sponsor sales.
