Split decission

I’m starting a strip-club blog and have been debating with my favorite geek which variation of the domain name to use. I know what I want but he thinks his choice is better for SEO. Any input from the peanut gallery on this one?

www.myfavoritestripclub.com
www.myfavoritestripclubs.com
www.my-favorite-strip-club.com
www.my-favorite-strip-clubs.com

Second question is what to do with the rest. Auto-forward, mirror, ?????

SheepGuy 2007-10-21 01:31 AM

#2, but I know nothing about SEO other than that mirroring is not a good idea. Maybe make some text rich intro pages on the rest leading to the main site on your main url.
Also, you might want to do one where "favorite" is spelled "favourite" if you're looking for more than an American audience.

If it was me, I would take the name that I liked over one that "may" be better for seo. I also like #2, but the others are good. |thumb

For a "blog" I'd just use the second one and leave the other two empty and redirect em to the developed site. But......if you have lots of time to burn there are some interesting things you can do. Just my ever declining in value 2 cents worth. ;)

Done - thanks SheepGuy.

In fact, if I think about it, some of my “favourite” strip clubs are in countries where prostitution isn't so frowned upon :D – wonder why that is…… |huh

I agree with placing text-rich index.html pages with a clear link to the main site - I've done very well with this approach on mainstream sites.

Because the closest thing to having actual contact with a stripper in the states is folding dollar bills up into footballs and shooting them at the girls asses :D

I used the strategy of buying a bunch of domains with the same keyword in them and putting up a bunch of one page wonders to link them all back to my main site Like This it worked pretty well.

But I got to tell you it isn't %100 I went to sell one of those domains, it had been #1 on google for weeks, when I showed the guy where it was listed on google, Greenguy and Jim was number one with a thread I had started whining for help |loony|

Unless you were married to one of the |crazy||boobies||satan| bitches.
Then you get plenty close and they take more than 1$ bills when they pack up and leave. Thank god for prenups!
Hell her middle name was Lucinda - and even her mom says it's just feminine for Lucifer. |devil|

I've answered a question about domain names here. I will dublicate my post:
Quote:

It is recommended to use no more than one hyphen in a domain name. I have never met any intelligible explanations about this mystery, but as you can notice, sites that are using more than one hyphen are ussually ranked lower.
Believe me, it's true. If i wanted SE traffic, I would stop on the second variant. You can also strike out the first one, because most people do inquiries in plural, like "Strip Clubs", not "Strip Club".
As for the rest of domain names, the only way to get 100% Search Engine Friendly redirect to your main site is to send "301 Redirect" into HTTP Header.

papagmp 2007-10-21 06:25 PM

My fav is #2 - I had never heard the more than one hyphen hurts but I'm not surprised. I do have an exception in mind but it uses uncommon spellings of a word, that if combined with the adjoining word(s) becomes a totally new word. Search engines consistently see the wrong combination of words if hyphens are not used.

I've always agreed on the plural - but I never leave a singular out there to haunt me later - ask the founder of redwagons.com about his battled with the copycat that snatched up redwagon.com - took him years to get everything settled in court. I typically avoid purchasing domains unless I can get at least the singular and plural.

I've considered 301 redirects but am leaning towards a content-rich text page with a manual link to the main site.

tigermom 2007-10-22 02:10 AM

I don't think it matters for SEO one bit. In my humble experience, I made it to top listings in Google, both with domain names with no hyphens, as well as domain names with one or with two hyphens. What matters the most, in my experience, is gradual link building with the right anchor text. It's a question of what your target phrase is. If you're going for "my favorite strip clubs", I'd say it doesn't matter which domain name of the four you're going to use, as long as you build enough links to it, gradually, not all at once, most of them with the anchor text of "my favorite strip clubs" and a few with different text. That's how I would do it, anyway. Then, give it some time and it will go high enough on Google.

If you're opting for a phrase like "Strip Clubs" then good luck to you lol, doesn't matter which domain you'll get, I highly doubt that you can build enough links to win that one ;)

Yah #2 I think is good. I am curious to the site features. Is there going to be a login so we can write reviews on strip clubs in our area. How about writing reviews about the chicks that work at these strip clubs? I would love to write about my 50.00 table dance :). I think that the site will be good for the traveling type stripper. They can have their own page like myspace. they can post their schedule and all that good stuff. I saw a strip club promoting Nautica Thorne. If she had a site to promote her stay.......just thinking out loud here. I gotta get back to work.

NY Jester 2007-10-22 11:19 AM

I have to agree with Sleep [walker] about the plural extension. clubs rather than club as the tendency is to search using the "s". Why not register them all much like T-Pat suggested and use the myfavoritestripclubs.com as the main and use keyword rich index pages on the others and link directly to the main.

So I'm going with #2

If we can get the software to do it all, I’d like to be able to do the following:

Split the site into three cats:

Clubs, Porn, and Other Attractions

Club Section:
Clubs can load and edit their own listings – location, hours of operation, size, type, services offered, feature shows etc… and list employment opportunities. Adds will be available for a small charges.

Dancers can have their own listing, will be able to create a upload an avatar, 3 pictures, a 30sec video clip, create a bio, link to the club they work at, look for employment, and comment on clubs. Dancer comments will be reviewed. We have arrangements with most of the local clubs to come by and shoot 30-sec teaser clips of all of their dancers for this purpose – we’ll be looking for help on this across the country (world) as we get this slow train moving.

Reviewers review content and monitor the blog, rate, recommend, and comment on clubs and dancers, review customer, dancer and club comments for legal content, block users, list clubs and dancers and post adds on the site.

Customers will be able to create a login, search for clubs based on city, state, and zip, map location and driving directions, comment on clubs and dancers, rate clubs and dancers, recommend new clubs,

Not sure yet if I’m going to let customers pm dancers or not.

Porn:
Basically a hybrid LL

Other Attractions:
Here is where we list clubs other than strip clubs (already have requests from the local gay and lesbian clubs and two of the larger music clubs in town), restaurants, adult video stores, etc….

The goal is to make it content rich and user friendly with a focus on the clubs and dancers.
