Reciprocal Link Question...

Hopefully the LL owners here can answer me. I see alot of free sites use the verbage of Link List recip. links but put it all in a uniform way..same color, same size font, etc. so that it more closely matches the web site. Is this OK? Will it get me banned? Or is it based on just how good it looks and how true you stay to the actual links verbage and destination? I dont want to do it for every free site I do, just when i set up the recip table a bit different than the 4x4 or 3x4 style.

Thanks in advance

Anyone?

Preacher 2007-12-01 05:05 PM

Yeah, they're called custom recips, seems like most people use them nowadays. They're fine. :)

Most people just strip the recips of their styles, leaving the existing anchor text, title and reciped location.

Some LL owners like myself and a few more on this board don't really care what the anchor text is, because a little diversity can be helpful. So instead of "big tits" you could recip with "nice jugs" or whatever.

Thank you Preacher, Ive seen them before but didnt want to do anything that would risk not being accepted.

Thanks again

I don't think I've ever built a freesite that used the given recip code. |loony|

Also, I think all the LL owners I've ever talked with feel the same way as Preacher, as far as variety with anchor links is concerned.

I agree with Preacher and Virgohippy.

Ditto, what everyone else said. Diversity in anchor text is a good thing!

Custom recips work for me too. All i ask for, is a link to my index page but if you want to add a link to the category as well that's fine.

Ditto here as well NY J :)

I don't really care... just as long as their is a recip back. I made my pretty generic anyways! Links to specific categories don't matter for my site as everything is redirected to the main warning page to ensure people see it.

Interesting idea. I've never thought of doing something like this before.

Mind if I ask, how has this affected your SE traffic?

papagmp 2007-12-04 05:55 PM

I actually prefer to see varied anchor text - as Preacher said "because a little diversity can be helpful."

Why do you imagine that is?

To be honest, I always thought it'd be a bad idea to redirect incoming traffic. Instead, I've always tried to optimize each individual page to make traffic flow in an organic manner.

Be a happy hippy. You are correct. |thumb |virgohippy|

Well... I'm not a search engine expert, so what do I know!
