Wordpress and Server load issues

I want to do lots of niche specific blogs which will, if i understand the way this works, require multiple installs of Wordpress.

I use virtual hosting, and was wondering how many Wordpress blogs I can run before I start to be a problem for my hosting company...?

btw, I also use a a couple of other scripts for managing blogs and and running a linklist (blogs automater and dragonlinks).

I have a virtual hosting plan with colo-cation and have no prob running phpadsnew on most of my stuff, a tgp script on one domain, BO and BA. I have BA set to crawl for new feeds once per day.
No sign of problems and I have 168 blogs getting updated randomly once a day with unique posts, Kaktus said aetting unique only posts in BA does put more strain on the server, I seem to be ok.
LD I want to give you a heads up this many blogs is a hell of a lot of work. I'm talking like 4 hours a day 7 days a week just keeping them looking pretty and it took me easily 300 hours getting it dialed in, (still tweaking). Think about this for a minute LD if you have 150 blogs and you want to make a change to each that takes two minutes your looking at a mind numbing five hour grind. |dizzy|

Good to know I've got a ways to go on overloading the server..I'm considering moving to Colo-cation btw.

I do seem to have more ideas than time these days. I doubt it I could do hundreds right now, but I would like to get a few up and running...maybe 5 or 10 or so. One of these days I hope to be able to do this full time...

I ran into server load issues with XXX Blog Maniac but I blame myself. I've got much more going on with that blog than most bloggers would ever dream of, feeds in my sidebar, feeds on pages, dynamic shit every where you turn. Many of my categories have different templates. Pages have different templates. It's my conglomeration of trial and error.

But back when I was at 2k uniques a day my host informed me I needed my own server....

I am more familiar with Word Press but I got into Drupal recently and it seems more stable to me. Drupal may have a collection of modules that can create what you are looking for.

Luscious, what T Pat says it true about colo-cation because they're a kick ass host...I think I've read else where on the board that you're with hostgator. I was with hostgator and with hostnine and they're very oversold...if you start abusing their server resources with lots of traffic and bandwidth, they'll close your sites down and then call you...I had hostgator call me one night at 3am and told me my account was two clicks away from being deleted...wordpress is a pretty good blogging tool and I've used it alot. It's not the installs of wordpress that will tax your server, it's the traffic, the bandwidth use, and the cronjobs...I"m with colo-cation and it rocks...everything from transfering my sites and making sure they run perfect to customer support with issues that might be out of scope for customer support like issues with my scripts malfunctioning...

This is where working smarter and not harder would come in to play. If you have that many blogs it almost seems like it would be easier to just have someone code up something and based on niches would add to a specific subset of sites etc. It would definitely cut your time down drastically.

Are you using AutoBlog? That's a cool ass plug in for WordPress...are you getting enough traffic to keep you interested in managing 168 blogs? Damn...is that 168 domain names?

No, I am not with Hostgator. I might switch to Colo when my current plan runs out...I'm ok for now.

Two things I've never been accused of are being lazy and working smart:D
I'm to stupid to code myself, I've hired three different coders in the time I've been in adult, the first one fucked me and vanished, Then Kaktus came along and I used him for a bunch of custom work until he stopped taking coding jobs. Gave another coder a shot last year he got $350 did a half ass job like a month behind schedule then dropped off the face of the earth.

I'm using Blogs Automator, Blogs Organizer and as soon as I catch my breath will also start using Gallery Scrapper.
With the next upgrade of BO and BA my work load will be cut in probable a third :D
The thing is I'm probable the first person using a combination of BO and BA that just jumped in, strapped up and put the pedal to the floor, expecting to spit out high quality splogs at lightning speed. Now Kaktus knows where improvements are needed |thumb

easymama I had a life altering experience at "On The Bench" on November 17th of last year Mr MarryLou and SheepGuy were discussing the AVS-Freesite-TGP Gallery business model. Chop Smith and I had spent most of one night in Las Vegas and many conversations followed talking about doing that exact business model.
After a whole bunch of "fuck me's I didn't follow through with it's". I decided to drop everything I was doing and buy content and start from scratch building AVS Sites, Free Sites and TGP galleries. That caused a whole bunch more "fuck me's" and tossing and turning in bed.
Then I took stock of what I had learned and done and where my focus has been for the last few years, what my strengths and weaknesses are. I had spent years beleaving blogs were here to stay and trying to put an aggregator together without being able to code a lick. I had tried starting up a bunch of blogs, guess what, can't write a lick either.
Then I came up with a plan rather than turning my nose up at sploggers I would join them, except I don't want to be just another splogger throwing shit against the wall, I want to be the best:D
I want webmasters to ask me to link to them rather than begging for link partners:D
anyway that's my dream/plan only time will tell if I'm wasting my time and should have bought content and started building AVS's, Free Sites and TGP Galleries.
I'm at just over 200 splogs, get a little more traffic everyday, will be at 1000 uniques a day by this weekend at the latest and as far as I can tell have made about $150 so far for a whole bunch of work. |huh
Oh and hell no their not all individual domains, that would be a bunch of money to be throwing at a dream:D
