A total of 2 signups, they change me to revshare

OK...
I started promoting [insert previously discussed company name here] in November

I made a total of 2 signups in 2 days
1:12 and 1:10
$40 per signup

Then I moved on to another project, and the traffic I was sending has dropped to about 5 hits per day, no signups since then. All in all I've sent a grand total of 280 hits.

Today I get the email:

We have been monitoring youraccount and
unfortunately we must change your account to Rev-share.

There has been a really high amount of credits and chargebacks and far to few of the signups have activated to a monthly membership.
When a webmasters traffic is not profitable we unfortunately cannot allow them to continue in our pay per join program.

We are forced to change your account to our 50/50 Rev-share starting February 3rd.
--------------

I know it's not me LOL I only used text from their tours to promote their site.

The numbers involved suggest they are either using a formula, or they are simply going about changing their program to revshare bit by bit.

As the other thread discusses, I think it's definitely the responsibility of the sponsor to make sure the members area is worthy.

2 measley signups and they are changing you over. That's fucked up.

I threw up one link and got a check and didn't even know I made signups. So when I checked my stats I see I have 5-6 signups. Time will tell if they switch me over or not.

The same company switched me over after 7 sales - never pushed em in any way, a couple of text links here and there - now that I've been switched over the stats show the revshare stats from day dot - which show that my a/c is/was marginally profitable to them... (ignoring processing fees obviously - but also ignoring their other money making avenues too)

edit: typo

unfortunately these decisions are quite often made by people you will never meet or know. they do not post on boards they don't know everyone involved.

They operate strictly on metrics, im thinking if you were sending a higher volume of sales though it wouldn't be an issue. As from their perspective it is simply an on profitable account. Perhaps you will be able to make even more money on their revshare program.

just pointing out something..not speaking up for anyone..as im still new here and i dont know the thread you are referring to or the company which was mentioned before.

Greenguy 2004-02-04 08:41 AM

Phoenix - there's 2 threads on this so far:

grandmascrotum - I feel for ya - feel free to jump on the bandwagon with me :D

Phoenix 2004-02-04 10:22 AM

damn, just read all the threads.
Sorry to hear it guys.

Next time im trying to sound bright and witty, i'll definitely run spell check as well...lol

I guess learn and move on.

Quality unique content is certainly becoming more and more important in this game. Cookie cutter sites are not going to perform anymore. People really need to start investing in their programs or they will just die a slow death.

Die fast or die slow, but at least try something.

Sorry to hear of everyones misfortune though.

This sponsor charges $50 a month for a full membership... If you were a surfer would you convert?

Wazza 2004-02-04 11:05 AM

Actually, I'd planned to yank this sponsor at the end of February anyway - they've hastened their own demise by three weeks - do I care in the slightest? Not likely...

WicKed 2004-02-04 03:31 PM

damn...They are definatly cutting off there own blood supply. Its unfortunate but they are doing it to themselves. I just dont understand how 2 signups can merit a "to many cancelations"
sounds to me like someone is running out of money....LOLOL

Jim 2004-02-04 03:44 PM

As I said on the Radio Show last night.
And remember, this is just a scenario.
Say a sponsor either was running out of money or didn't realize how expensive a real affiliate program was. This would be the perfect move to try to save face and stay in business.

Last night I said that that's what I would do. But, as everyone knows by reading http://www.greenguysboard.com/ultracash.html that is not what I did when I had money stolen from me. I did everything I had to do to get my webmasters paid. Including selling a lot of my personal items. That is what an honorable affiliate owner would do.

Ms Naughty 2004-02-04 05:50 PM

This wasn't a major loss to me... I had really only had a small go at promoting them, as the numbers make clear. And I didn't realise it was $50 a join. Disappointed though, I thought this was a good program.

I quite like revshare programs, provided you know what's inside the site. In this case, I don't... and if I consider that both my signups sent were probably chargebacks, it doesn't sound encouraging. :(

In terms of trying to recover in the face of a bad business decision... I don't mind if a program has to change to stay in business. Better they do that and tell me up front than lie or retroactively remove signups or not pay me at all (which has happened to me in the past) :(

Wazza 2004-02-04 06:01 PM

Go have a look at your stats GS - now that you're on revshare they should be showing if the pps signups converted and rebilled...

Ms Naughty 2004-02-04 06:16 PM

Hmmm... looked at the detailed stats. Two joins, no conversions, no rebills. I guess I cost them $80. Oh well. At least I didn't waste their bandwidth... LOL

Extreme John 2004-02-04 09:22 PM

That sucks GS.....

Sounds like, smells like.... B U L L S H I T
