Windows Hosting Info
I have a script that I need to run on a Windows host which requires the use of a .exe file. Do Windows hosts generally allow users (small virtual account) to execute that kind of file on their boxes? I've always used *nix hosting, so I'm really quite clueless.
Know any reliable hosts with small virtual Windows accounts? |
UW is this for adult?
|
That's what I do. |boobies|

Is it time to set off boardtracker for some hosts?

Have you tried running it on something like WINE to see what it does?
Are you sure there isn't a better *nix solution anyway? |

I hadn't considered installing WINE on my server. It may work, but I don't think I'll try. I'm probably going to find an inexpensive windows hosting account and have them store the .exe file somewhere safe. This is all for a very minor project, so it's not worth too much effort or expense. |
When I was looking at hosting I had a small list I was going to look at, one that had Windows as well as Linux was http://www.adultwebhostingxxx.com/

UW, no problem. Hope it works out.

Well, it's not working on that host and they are taking forever to respond to my support request. Frankly, I blame Bill Gates.

Thats why he left 'cause he knew his products were shit!
Paging Steve Jobs..Oh STEEEEEVVVEE!!! |
I bet I'm one of the few people who can ask a question about web hosting and not get a single reply from a hosting rep. :D
|cleo| Picture that smiley with a penguin instead of an apple. Hosting support finally replied. PHP is not supported on their Windows servers. Apparently I chose the only Windows host that I looked at which doesn't list PHP in their supported languages section. (Nice work UW. You really are useless.) Of course, the jerks took to the time to suggest that I should upgrade from the $3.99/month account to one of their dedicated servers for PHP support. |badidea| |
Well, two hosts down - no success. The first one doesn't have PHP and the second won't allow me to execute a .exe file on their server. Why the hell does it function on a free host (which would typically have all kinds of limitations in place), but not on a paid host?
I HATE WINDOWS HOSTS. YOU ALL SUCK. The free host I'm using does have paid accounts, but their terms are not adult-friendly. Bloody hell. |
If you didn't need PHP I'd offer to host it on the Windows 2003 Server I have set up here at the house. I use it for some small non-adult sites, but it isn't set up to run PHP either.
