Email Submits VS Online Form
Whats your opinion?
My new LL can do form submits, but right now I am using submits via email. I don't have any captcha, would just be a regular submit form. Can't decide whether to activate the online form or not. |huh thoughts? |
Strange as it may sound, auto-submitters haven't figured out e-mail yet :D
|
do auto-submitters seem to target any LL they find or do they usually harass established LL's?
|
No idea buddy, I've never had an auto submitter ;)

E-mail submits? You'd have to be nuts. :D |
As someone that ran a link list for years with email submits, I'd have to advise against it. It was a HUGE pain in the ass. I'd never do that again. Unlike SheepGuy, I got email form spam all the time. I had the submits coming into my outlook email program and it wasn't fun. I'm so glad I use script forms now. Just my opinion.

There are pro's and con's of both. I personally dont think it matters in a way of submitting. I dont mind taking the time to email my submissions to any who choose to set up there sites in that fashion. I feel its personal choice as to what works best for the individual. I feel Im getting the opportunity to post an advertisment for my sponsor and hopefully make a sale from it, which in turn puts $$ in my pockets. The least I can do is uphold the rules and submit with their chosen means.
My 2 cents |
I've had a form for 8 years without a captcha - sure, it's a pain in the ass at times, but it's a hell of a lot easier/faster than putting the info in by hand with copy/paste from an email.

I would say stick to conventional forms.
As a submitter if I came across an LL which needed me to send an Email to submit, I was immediately put off. Unless the LL was something special in the way of traffic I just wouldn't bother. :) |

Than by doing so, youve missed out on at least half a dozen quality LL submissions from GG&J board members right there. And thats all well and good..I always try and kepe any LL that use email within the same recip table and submit to them at one time. |
well, doing it by email has allowed me to open communication with a couple people and I'm sure may more.
Forms are by far easier, but I did accidently delete a couple and now I'm parinoid that there were more. I suppose I could put it up and see how it goes. Can always go back to email if things turn bad. |

As a submitter - I highly prefer submitting via email!
As an LL owner, I also like the emails. I've never activated the script I built cuz the email seams to wok for now. I agree with NY J. - you're missing out on a few great LL's if you pass up on the email submissions. Surprising as it may be, I've never used my submit email for anything but submits and I haven receive one single spam to date. I'm sure this will change sooner than later but for now, I love the email thing. Just my 2cents |
As a submitter: give me a submit form. When scoping out a new link list potential if I see 'submit by email' I move on, it is easier to do it all the same way, especially when submitting to multiple link lists everyday which is a very tedious task as it is.
On another note when a potential LL says 'sign up for partner account' I am actually more interested in it. I always feel better about submitting to someone that has seen my sample sites and has approved my partner account, then I know I have a greater chance of being listed at their LL. |
Script forms is the way to go
|
web form all day long baby...i'm going for a combination of speed and accuracy trying to submit to as many LL as I can each day...email submissions slow that down
|
I agree with others that e-mail by hand is a pain in the ass, did it when I first started. After I went to form/automated, got alot more done. Bots are going to find forms, whether they are e-mail or script. Least with captcha you have a fighting chance. Like Greenguy said, too much copy and paste, ect.
I am with others, when I come across submits that need to be e-mailed, I move on as well, guess I am missing out too..:) Not to mention, e-mail is no where near 100%, if your concerned about losing submits, I'd be more concerned losing e-mails. |
Some of my favorite places to submit are email. I find it actually easier although it's a bit of a break in routine, but either way is fine for me. And like some have mentioned there are some really good quality email only list.
For my own linklist, I like the things I can do with my script. I can put 25 newest sites without the description one place, then put them another place, with descriptions, icons or whatever, sorted in a number of different ways. It's great having so many options in presenting the links on my site. Not to mention database management like checking for redirects and the like...and valuable statistics like which sites are more popular, which submitters use the same cat over and over...Personally I wouldn't want to have a linklist without a script. |
