My doggy passed away today

My doberman of 11 years just passed away today.

I am so sad :(

Jim 2004-02-09 11:42 AM

Man, that sucks. A couple of years ago, the best dog I ever had passed away unexpected.

It was hard for awhile. The biggest problem was he died the day before my step-son's graduation party. And, we had a lot of people here. It didn't really hit me until I picked up his ashes and buried him under his favorite tree.

Cleo 2004-02-09 11:46 AM

My condolences. :(

I know I'm closer to my pets then a lot of people in my life.

Sounds like it is time to go out and find a new puppy that is in need of a loving home.

Thank you Cleo and Jim for your heart felt condolences.

Its really tough losing your best friend.

Sorry to hear about that, the dog we had when I grew up passed away quite a few years ago now and that was really hard. His name was Sam and was a German Sheppard that we found as a puppy that someone left on the streets to roam around. We begged and pleaded with my parents to keep him and we got to, he was the best dog we ever had. It sucks, but you can remember what a great dog he/she was. A good friend of mine replaces the dog with another one the exact same breed and coloration and the same name + a number.

He is on Midnight 3 now.

tanakadesigns - that stinks - sorry to hear :(

I have a cat that we assume is about 14-16 years old (we got her in 96 & they had no idea how old she way) Twice in the last 2 months she's gotten very lathergic for about 24 hours - the next day she's fine, but it is a sign of things to come.

& I have no idea what I'll do when my buddy (dog) passes.

Thank you Greenguy, I really appeciate the the concern. We lost our other dog last year on my son's Birthday it was really tough losing her and now we have lost our last dog. The worse part is I am going to have to tell my Son's when they get home from school :(

Thank you AcidMaX, I don't know if I can get another dog right now. Its just so heart wrenching to have them die after loving and being part of our family for 11 years. I think in time we might consider but, right now its so sad.
Thanks again for all your condolences.

Very sorry to hear that, Tanaka. I lost two of my lovely dogs last year, and had a close call with a third.

The man/dog bond is just so special.

jscott 2004-02-09 05:00 PM

well it's good to hear that they were actually loved and sounds like they were taken care of well, i hate it when people get dogs and treat them like shit.

i love ALL animals and dogs are my favorites

sorry to hear of your losses man |sad|

Greenie, as you know, when my dog Truman was alive, he slept in my office. You will probably do the same thing I did. For about 2 weeks when I shut down for the night, I still said, "Night, night boy...see you in the morning...I love you".

I still get very sad when I think about him. He really did die before his time. But, a bit of advice to anyone getting a dog.

Don't get a really big dog. Truman was a Great Dane and if he had lived until he was 7, he would have been considered very old. Anything you think could go wrong with an animal too big, does. They get bad backs, stomach problems and just die way too soon. Almost 2 years later and my heart is still broken.

Very sorry for your loss tanakadesigns,
to lose a companion that you have had for so many years must really be tough :(

I've had 14 dogs in my adult life, and I've now lost 7 of them. As each one has passed it hasn't got any easier. But one thing I've recently discovered is that, when it's all over, cremation is the best route. How I wish I'd come to that conclusion earlier - I wouldn't then have dogs buried in the gardens of houses which we no longer own.

But at least Pickle and Boots can always be with me. I look to my left and I see their pictures on the wall. I look to my right, and I can reach out and touch the two boxes containing their ashes. And every night, as I go to bed, I pat the boxes and say "Goodnight mates."

Thankfully I've still got seven dogs to keep me company on my journey, and I love them all to bits.

Man Oh man did I ever do this! My "Boog" will be gone 2 years in July and it still fucking hurts. He was 13 and I had him since 8 weeks old. I am about ready to rescue another little guy this summer, its been long enough now.

Tanaka do a search and read the "Rainbow Bridge" story and grab some tissues. You will think about your little pet forever but it does get a little easier as time goes by. There are not enough true dog lovers out there so you owe it to yourself and your loved pet to adopt another one when ready!

My thoughts are with you.

yep he had a good life. We bought him in California when we lived there from a breeder and brought him home at 10 weeks old. My sons have never known life without him.

Tanka..so sorry to hear that..!!
I've had 4 dogs pass away in the past 20 years..they were all my babies..all different..but I loved them just the same..and the hardest part was telling my sons..
The last dog was my babie-sweetie..my rottie Brandy..we were total buds..she hated my ex-husband..she had the hip thing some large breeds get from in-breeding (displasia(sp..) and an enlarged heart..but I loved her just the same..had her trained in fort monmouth by fred fink, the dude who trains army dogs down there..he had a class every sunday morning for us regular folk..
Came home from work one day and found her..
I still think about her...And you will think about your baby too..and soon it will be good thoughts..rememberances..
For me, the dog days are gone..I have a cat now who thinks she's a dog..:)

My sympathies, Tanka..

Thank you all so much! Its been a real rough last few days since my doggie passed. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking he is there.

digifan 2004-02-12 12:01 AM

My sympathies also Tanakadesigns :(

I feel ya, it must be terrible... I always used to have german sheps and loved them then found a 6 yr old yorkie on the street.. it took me some time to get used to her but she became the queen of the house in no time being the clown yorkies are. She is around 18 now and had an accident 2 weeks ago, fell off er fave chair and broker her jaws.. I am feeding her from my hand and not sure if she will make it. The vet told me we should wait 1-2 months then put her to sleep if she can't heal.
I know it is not easy... it is not fair dogs can't live longer...
