How do SEs see header pages?
My category pages for my linklist use a common header which is called up using a "php" statement. The header is regular php page with html and has its own doc type, title, keywords, meta tags, body etc.
The "real" page (anal, babe, milf, etc) has specific title, KWs, etc. Obviously I want spiders to see the info on the specific page. Is the header page a problem? The "php" code which calls up the header page comes after the "head" section of the category page, so I think the spider sees what I want it to see first...still I'm not sure how this works. |
I am not sure of its effects on spiders and which one they will take as the 'primary' but having two head sections is not good practice.
One way that could help you tell which one they are seeing is look for your cat. page listings on google and see what description each one has as they often use your meta description as the basis for theirs. |
It seems to work okay in Lynx (text browser, similar to what the bots see), and generally you can get away with 'bad' html..... but having 2 lots of html, head, body tags etc is really just asking for trouble.
By the looks of your page, you're pulling the include for the drop-down form alone? You should be able to ditch everything in that php file bar the opening & closing form tags. |
You're building all your pages manually anyway so just dump the header info from the include and use it for a logo, a global ad, navigation or whatever.

Thanks for all the replies, and Lemmy that is what I will probably do. I'm having some problems getting my cat pages indexed properly, and this might be the answer. When I set it up the idea was to be able to change out an ad in one place and have it change on all the different cat pages. Might not have been such a good idea using the php thing.... |
If you're not using it already I recommend OpenAds (formerly phpAdsNew) for managing your ads/banners. It can be a bitch to set up and learn how to use initially, but once that's done you can easily change things around quickly. You get nice stats too.
