What script doesn't accept characters in the site title?
I'm getting sick of seeing submit with titles like this:
Jennas Big Boobs Obviously, it should be: Jenna's Big Boobs So what assbackwards script does not allow submits like this? |
I'm more annoyed with scripts that don't allow titles like Jenna's Big Boobs. Tommy's script comes to mind.
|
That's what I'm talking about :D
My script has no problem with sites titles like "Jenna's Big Boobs" but I keep seeing them like "Jennas Big Boobs" and it's annoying...not to mention the strain it puts on my spell checker! So Tommy & his 2 friends on Face Book are to blame? |
Mine can't hand numbers in a title, so I have to edit 18 and Horny to be Eighteen and Horny. Well, the main listing part doesn't mind numbers, but I have a lot trickery employed on other pages - that's what falls apart when it's faced with numbers. I certainly don't expect my submitters to know that and don't expect them to modify their titles just for my site.
But to answer your question ;), my script can eat apostrophes all day long and never complain. When I see a title without an apostrophe, like Jizz in Jennas Asshole, I assume it's just another webmaster who hasn't fully embraced the possessive form. |
I could add Jennas and others like it to my list of banned words but figure it would just confuse submitters.
I'm also annoyed by lack of proper punctuation but as a submitter I know that there are a bunch of scripts out there that force submitters to leave out punctuation characters so I just fix them as they come in. |

Apostrophes in particular are problematic due to their use within the syntax of SQL statements. Banning their use within input strings is a quick-n-dirty way to reduce that potential security risk.

hqseek.com, their script doesn't allow characters in submissions, spits out an error page. :)

All you LL owners are just lazy |couch|
|
I hate the fact that I have to fudge the proper punctuation on titles but I gave up a long time ago on this one - it I remember right, it's about 1/4th of the LL's I submit to that grind to a halt when there's an ' in the title and or text.
Last time I yelled at Greg, my php/database geek, for my paysite forms not liking the little devils, he set something on the server to make sure it was fixed. You'd have to ask him what it was - but if he hadn't fixed it, I would have been looking for another programmer. If I get off my ass this week and submit, I'll put an apostrophe in the title and text and let you know what I find as I submit. |
Apostrophes also throw a wrench in the works for some php scripts. It's pretty easily fixed on the coding side. Main cause is laziness. |yawn|

I see it on LL/s and tube scripts, it's a pain in the ass.
|
A while back I tried using apostrophes in titles and there were too many LLs who gave me error messages to bother keeping track. |sad|
It's such an easy fix in PHP. If you've got magicquotes turned off: addslashes (before putting into DB) stripslashes (after pulling out of DB) htmlspecialchars (before putting into HTML form input tag) and you're done. |
Krawl doesn't accept them at all now
