how do i redirect my 404 etc traffic on wordpress sites?

I cant seem to be able to add code for redirecting my 404 etc traffic on domains that run wordpress, it always seems to get my the 404 error on my blog, and not redirecting me to what I have set up in htaccess

Yep, that is how WP works, you could setup a 404.php within your template to handle these or there is a WP plug-in called Redirection that would redirect where you wanted.

Did anyone tried this plugin?
