My Dad Googled Himself For The 1st Time...
 

So my Dad calls me today. He's home goofing off on the computer & decided to Google himself. He 1st asks me if I've ever done it and, of course, I have. I tell him that the one thing that pertains to me is an old WIPO domain case I lost. Then I say there's more famous people with the same name (newspaper guy, photographer. etc)

He then tells me that when he did it, the 1st thing to come up was his resume. He got the job he has a couple years ago after working for years with 2 other companies (he's killing time - 16 months to go) Anyway, he keep tells me about the other results and one of them is info about his vasectomy! This one took me back a bit, so I started to search, but I could not duplicate his results.

I tried just his name, added his middle name, middle initial, all in quotes, etc. I don't see ANYTHING on him.

So then I asked him if he had Google Desktop installed & he said yes.

(if you don't get it, Google Desktop searches your computer 1st, then the web - he was looking at links to internal files)

I still don't get it????

But it made me wonder how many times someone (older?) uses that Google Desktop search to look for porn and winds up finding something they can get off to on their own hard drive already. Particularly if they've already downloaded lots of pics and movies.

Damn...that might be an argument for why webmasters shouldn't name files like "hot-blonde-deepthroating.mpg (or .jpg)" so that they don't get found on local searches by mistake.

grin that i am gonna tell my mom, she thinks she knows alot about the puter and the net, but i am sure she doenst know that, i am gonna tell her tomorrow i found all kinds of things about her...she will buy it:D
