The Giant Circuit City Blowout Sale: Don’t Bother!

I found myself up unusually early this past Saturday morning, so I decided to check out what all the frush was about with the giant “Circuit City going out of business” sale. Hell, they might have a few items I wouldn’t have otherwise bought if the price were right. I went over to the closest store in Burbank, found the place to be mobbed, it was impossible to park, most of the good stuff was already gone, and the lines at the register stretched to the back of the store.

I said, “Fuck it” and left.

So, I decided to check another store out in LA and there was a line out the door so fucking long, you would have thought Led Zeppelin had reunited! The crowd reminded me of the cast of “Idiocrasy”.

Fuck that shit, I just drove on.

Here is the kicker, here are the big “savings”:

1. 10% on most everything.
2. 20% on CDs and DVDs (all the good ones were gone)
3. 30% on the already overprices cables.

Meaning, if you spent 100$ on a new DVD player – you’d save a whopping 10 bucks. Like 2 bucks on a CD? Unless you are having a whopping HDMI shortage at your house, this sale is basically worthless!

Do you really need to spend 4 hours to save 10 bucks? Is your time worth $2.50$ an hour?

Mine isn’t.

Viva BestBuy!

I'm glad I talked my brother out of going there today.

My husband told me the exact same thing Jay. He went to check out the sale a month or so ago when they first advertised they where closing. Big waste of time he said.

People are suckers what can i say.

But you're right going out of the way for those saving probably wont be of much use, considering it
would probably cost more in fuel and headfucks :)

I drove by my local Circuit City this weekend and by the size of the line, I thought I was missing something. :)

The one by me had a bunch of what looked like homeless street urchins standing by the highway holding up signs announcing the sale.

In the same shopping center is Pier 1 imports having a 75% off sale. Also in the same shopping center The Rag Shop, Linens and Things, and Bombay Company have gone out of business in the last few months. CompUSA is also in the same shopping center and they had a going out of business sale a few months ago and then stayed open so I'm not sure what is up with that.

Compusa was bought out by the online retailer from Miami, Tiger Direct

Ramster could have used that discount when he had his theatre* room put in - how much was that HDMI cable again? |couch|

I'm gonna miss Circuit City - I bought most, if not all of my electronics there over the past few years (since they bought out Silo in 1994?)

* yes, it's spelled "theatre" in Canadia

One HDMI cable short of being of one of those cribs houses, eh?

Most the stuff they have in those stores up here is crap anyways unless you want batteries.

Spelling "theatre" as "theater" kills me. I have OCD.

I'm glad they're going out of business. Their television commercials are annoying. We will be having a new Futureshop opening here soon. I'm hoping it will drive our local Staples and Source (Radioshack) stores out of business. I stopped shopping at Staples because of their lazy sales people and Source because of their aggressive ones. And they both sell crap.

We have a local record store that is closing its doors tomorrow for good. They have marked down the price of their CDs %25! It sounds like a deal, but most of their CDs were around the $20-25 price mark anyway. I don't feel one bit sorry for them.

this evening they had a special on our news saying circuit city raised there prices then gave the price reduction... i dont think i will be shopping at circuit city anytime soon...LOL

Those Liquidation sales are a load of crap! Most of the items "on sale" could have more than likely been less expensive before the actual "sale". CC has already closed out probably and sold off their remaining inventory to a company which specializes in liquidating assets. They had a huge special about this a month or so back on CNN and how you are could actually be paying more. Those commercials for the sale are bought and paid for by the company that is now responsible for the goods. A 700 dollar tv 3 months ago could be "Special Liquidation Deal : 1100.00", because they know that the word sale makes people more likely to buy something.

Liquidation of CC is making me sad.Right now "Electronic Expo" small company from NJ is closing their stores too."Staples" sucks, "Comp USA" is gone , "Radio Shack" offers only crap and only "Best Buy" is staying alive without any real competition on the market.
