When should I submit my site to search engines?

Hi all,
I'm new to the webmaster business and have been reading a lot about how to get it started. I have read that it is good to have a lot of link-backs to your site before you submit the the big search engines. However I have been running into some sites that wont accept my site because it's not yet listed. The site is less than two weeks old. Should I submit ASAP or wait untill I have more link-backs?

Thanks everybody!!!

there is no reason not to submit Your page to SE now

I never submit my sites to the SEs. I let them find 'em on their own.

So if I don't submit then eventually they will find it? How does that work? How long does it take and is there any advantage or disadvantage? (Thanks for putting up with the newb questions!!!)

Try fixing the link in your sig for starters.

You can register for the Google webmaster central and get the info what's going on with your site... Top searched keywords, back links etc. etc....
