Microsoft's New Search Engine Bing

Microsoft's New Search Engine Puts Porn in Motion (FoxNews)

Quote:

Bing, Microsoft's new search engine (www.bing.com), went live in the U.S. this weekend, aiming to challenge and possibly unseat industry titan Google.

But bloggers and Internet safety experts quickly discovered that one of Bing's "features" is that it takes only a few clicks for anyone — of any age — to view explicit pornographic videos without even leaving the search engine.

In its bid to beat Google, Microsoft has unveiled a slate of convenient features for Bing, including an "autoplay" tool that lets users preview videos simply by hovering a mouse over them.

That asset may become a liability, because users can get a taste of porn videos on Bing instead of having to go to a smutty Web site — an innovation other search engines have yet to offer.
As if tube sites and the terrible economy weren't enough problems for the adult industry, now we have another issue. If Bing users can watch videos from adult sites on Bing without visiting them, that means that those Bing users won't see affiliate links on those sites. Let's all hope that Bing is as shitty as all of Microsoft's prior search engine efforts.

Lousy Results

At first blush, IMHO, the results it's putting out are pretty miserable. Perhaps they haven't bothered to crawl much of the web? If this is what it's going to be, I don't think anyone has much to worry about.

ArtWilliams 2009-06-02 06:34 PM

Their "Video" results seems to include some tube sites. That can't be good.

Allfetish 2009-06-02 07:04 PM

Hmmm. There must be an .htaccess or such that I can place on my sites so that any referrer showing bing can be redirected. Has anyone already done this?

I haven't bothered in years but I have no love loss for Microsoft and the idea of them showing their ads while sucking my bandwidth angers me.

Did you turn off the safe filter? It seems decent to me. This is not good, I very much agree.

Hopefully there is some sort of robots.txt line I can end to tell Bing NOT to index my videos yet to still allow regular .html and images to be indexed. I will definitely be looking into this as well as the possible .htaccess solution.

ArtWilliams 2009-06-02 08:37 PM

Under Videos there are 16,000 "gangbang" movies greater than 20 minutes long!

Microsoft's New Search Engine Puts Porn in Motion

our kids may get a bang out of Bing — and that's not a good thing, Internet safety experts warned on Monday.

The surfers are seeing this. Here's a comment from digg.

I've been using Bing quite a bit. It turns out to be an excellent search engine for porn videos. It scrapes all of the video sites and the thumbnails show a video preview on mouseover WITH audio. See for yourself: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=big+*****+filte ... (NSFW )

Allfetish 2009-06-03 01:58 PM

Sigh. Please excuse me from listing the same exact article again. I had actually intended to link to the digg discussion...

Wouldn't having previews like that make them legally responsible for the content?

What about the illegal stuff? Having search results to sites with it may be one thing but actually showing the videos on site?

Wazza 2009-06-04 07:32 AM

Faux News will do our work for us... imo this "feature" will get scrubbed soon...

nate 2009-06-05 05:13 PM

I got a first page hit for "emo chan girls". LULZ.

You would think so with 2257. How is the preview feature working? Do they utillize a cache or such?

Some good news.... supposedly the preview is only the first 30 seconds.

Greenguy 2009-06-06 11:21 PM

I test "greenguy" any time I see a new SE come out. I'm not expecting to be #1 with BOLD fonts & sparkles, but I do expect to see LOR on there someplace, especially if there's other porn sites listed.

http://www.bing.com/search?q=greenguy&go=&form=QBLH

1st result for me is Page 6....my Terms Of Use page |banghead|

There's numerous porn & mainstream results before the 1st LOR result., including things about me, like this board, my stats, interviews, etc.

Bing is crap.

Greenguy 2009-06-06 11:22 PM

OOOHHHH - look at #1 & #2 for "greenguy" - greenguy.com and greenguy.net - way to value the domain name overt EVERYTHING else |thumb

I did a few test searches the other day for search terms that should bring up obvious results. Google has nothing to worry about :D

HowlingWulf 2009-06-08 09:20 AM

Hmm well I just saw I'm #1 on both Google and Bing for a certain search term.
Daily traffic:
Google: ~3700
Bing: ~80

awmnet 2009-06-08 12:12 PM

bing counts domain names first of all, all my low key blogs are on first page of bing cause they have ketwords in domain names :P if only bing could send equal amount of traffic :D

nate 2009-06-08 03:56 PM

Stupid: I have a domain named changirls, which is a blog with all legal sponsor content (nubiles, teenflood). Doing a bing search, the first mention of the domain is on page 5 and get this, the file they decided to link to is named sitemap.xml.gz. How fucked up does a search engine need to be to link to a compressed sitemap instead of the site root.

On the other hand, chan-sluts is listed first page under google when you search for "chan sluts". Its a site full of locally hosted nubiles and teencash galleries with using templates supplied by the sponsors with a a few additions like img alt tags.

amadman 2009-06-08 06:14 PM

Searched for xstash on Bing just to see what would come out and the first site is XXXStash.com |asshole|

And, those are parked pages. Quite a bit of work for MS to do it seems.

hony 2009-06-12 02:43 AM

Some good results for me so I'm happy with it. ;-)

Cleo 2009-06-12 08:30 AM

Seems Bing thinks you should buy a Mac.

euphline 2009-06-12 10:02 AM

Cleo Porn Links

http://www.bing.com/search?q=cleo+po...&go=&form=QBRE

http://www.bing.com/search?q=cleo%27...&go=&form=QBRE

Go GG&J!!! Go Cleo's blog!

These kinds of results won't build an audience of people using it. I mean ... really...
