Blog or static pages?
oke , for a long time i wanna do something personal on the net...but i had to think hard of it, how to do all, reason its about my personal life, and yeah i have a interresting personal life, specialy since my parents where 15 and 16 when they got me....but i have also some insteressting fam members, so i wanna make a mainstream site, it will be very personal and on a private domain (believe me some will know its me posting there), tons of funny things (yeah i am still a kid, but also tons of getting me pissed things). but now my dilemma, blog or static pages, if i am gonna write now my story i still will be writing in about 2 months, so for me static would be great, most say to me....make a blog, but then they advice me to write short stories and one a day, on this moment i am a person who just wanna write all...so i need some advice on this one.

Sounds like a blog would be perfect for that.

You could make it a blog and just set it to one post per "page" - it would give it the look of static pages but still serve as a posted blog.
|
I think more people will read/follow your writings if you do a blog style and post each little bit as you write it.
|
that sounds really interesting.. would love to read that

Save yourself a ton of headache and use some blog software. From ease of use, the number of themes and addons out there, wordpress would have to be near the top.
I would think static pages would get in the way of your desire to just write a post. With wordpress (or any blog package) you can create a draft, work on it and post it after you've worked with it. I'm not a fan of wordpress, but, it is almost designed to do what you want to do. And, if you really want to get crazy, there is a twitter plugin for wordpress (Twitter updater w/ TinyURL) which tweets when you start a post, when a post is saved and when it is published. You can also set up your profile in Facebook to pull the RSS from your blog and post it to your 'Notes' which by default are displayed in other people's feeds. They see a copy of the feed and can click through to the actual post. |
i have had serveral story blogs, i have sold them all, i dont wanna post a story a day, i wanna write and write, i know seo wise a blog will be good, but this is just a personal thing....still i need to think seo wise too, btw my stories a day will be way to long, although ses loves the keywords of stories:D

Maybe you might want more of a diary style template.

I understand why you want static pages, but the right program will give you options - such as listing oldest first, or leaving one, ten or a hundred posts on the index or first page - on top of which it will generate the hard links to the past and allow tags or labels for each post's theme or main idea to create threads on those... Blog it ;) :D |
Looking at your avatar text ("Coding, coding...and again coding..thats my job the next weeks") I'm assuming you know a bit about coding. If so I found it quicker in the long run to write my own blog software, that way it works exactly as you want it to work, you don't have to adapt what you want to do to what the blog software allows you to do, and you can write it to create any style of page layout you like.

I'd suggest doing a blog, but that's my answer to just about everything

with pivot i can blacklist on words, ip etc etc, and thats what i did, further i could change the template in whatever i wanted, the only problem i ever had was, making the postings infront and then that the script would put them up the time i wanted, i never managed to made that to work.

Whichever way you go make sure to posts a lot of pictures, the dirtier the better ;)

Well I use Wordpress for my blog and it works wonderful. We have them set so you can install with a few clicks so I tried it out myself and loved it. So I kept it on.
That's what I would use is a blog. |
I hate to be lame, but it sounds like your crafting something that's sentimental to you. As such why not write it with plain old static pages, you cant be more intimate with a site than that. Blogs are heavy handed in a sense that they constrict everything into a paradigm and impose it upon you. Ultimate creativity is to be had with writing the pages by hand. . . OK you can flame me now :)

I agree, the blog would be perfect :)
