Bing more popular than many expected

Wow. It seems that the new search engine, Bing, is getting a lot more traffic than many expected it to.

"According to Compete.com, Bing was able to amass 49.57 million unique visitors in its first month as Microsoft’s official search engine. Bing’s traffic trumps that of Digg (38.96 million) Twitter (23 million), and CNN (28.54 million). We want to stress that this focuses on U.S. visitors, since Compete does not track international visits."

Bing SEO.

Did Microsoftheads finally get it right? Think it will be a significant traffic source for your sites??

Since they still don't allow porn PPC I won't see a whole lot of effect. Maybe a small % drop on G & Y traffic.

That being said, I am getting some fairly good quality search traffic on older pages from them.

It seems from what I am reading about in SEO articles is that older the pages are, the more Bing like 'em.

I think that is more coincidental than something that is part of their design. I believe they crawled the web about 90 days prior to launch and used that as their base. I have seen their bots hitting a few pages that I've been working on quite closely and they are inserting pages that are quite new in reasonably high positions. However, no matter what the placement, it is still a fraction of the traffic that I'm seeing from google on those same pages.

They did buy up a lot of ad space - my Verizon LG has Bing as the default SE |banghead|

Even though I get bing traffic I just figure it's surfers who were using google before, so the overall base remains the same.

I'm doing well on Bing. It doesn't work in firefox for me though, does anyone else have this problem?

HowlingWulf 2009-07-17 12:57 PM

Could you elaborate? Bing.com comes up fine in my firefox... ?

happygoon 2009-07-21 11:49 AM

A lot of things overlap, it is especially difficult with video search. Everything is just crammed together. Bing works fine for me in IE and chrome, and it is the only site that firefox messes up like this...

While looking for something else, I stumbled upon a web forum of porn surfers. They really like Bing. |angry|

I wonder if this is intentional.

So far bing.com is only about 3% of my search referred traffic... that's considerably less then MSN/live used to send me.

Ask sends me 1/10 as much as bing, so I'm optimistic.

I think that bing has made video searching so easy that maybe we're losing people who would have clicked on free sites and blogs before, because now they just click the video from a tube site.
