What's a good CTR?

Obviusly I'm not a real stats fiend or I'd know, but I'm checking it on a new ad I'm using and so far I've got 3/34 or 0.088.
I think it's a damn good ad, and the sponsor is converting at around 1/600.
Math is not my strong point.

Depends on the type of site.

Been out of the game for a while with regard to tgp and freesites, but I usually saw between 3-6% on galleries, and a little better on freesites.

Blogs pushing to a fhg, probably 5-8% but many sponsors have awful fhg's, a blog pushing to sponsor tour on the posts .. you want 25% at least, but I work with people who have pushed even as high as 50%.

Tubes .. on adverts we tend to get 5% combined on our tubes... really depends on the adverts.

Again it depends wildly on what type of sites you are running.

Clicks on ads? You got 3% to 6% of the visitors to your galleries clicking on the ads? How did you manage that, were you offering them a free car with every trial signup or something?

Ramster 2009-07-21 07:42 AM

3-6% is a normal CTR. I've had some galleries in the past that did double that. It was a big tit site before Jugg Cash and all the others now and the girls had HUGE tits (like Score Cash girls) but they were skinny, so it was a WOW factor that lead to a high CTR. So content is a big big big factor in CTR as is design/layout.

Back when I did galleries yep I would get that. I make no apology for claiming to be good at galleries and getting the clicks plus sales back in the day before the rules started to clamp down on decent advertising. :)

As I said, I haven't done them for some time, sale with freesites so my experiences aren't current.

Sheepguy what type of traffic is it? hub? linklist? I'm pretty sure it's not a TGP gallery.

It's a hub that's not finished yet. I have a few hubs, but this is the first one I'll be really looking at the stats on. Almost all of the traffic going in is from TGP galleries.

I'm thinking the same thing, I put out a fair bit of smut, and I'm thinking I'm wasting a lot of ad space that could be used better.

Also thinking along the same lines , ideally what you want to do is use some sort of ad management system like openads where you rotate banners in various spots and then measure your ctr. Increase the visibility of higher click thru ads and phase out lower ctr and add new ads to ur inventory.

Anyone know anything about Google Ad manager - seems like this is also a solution for this - not sure if they allow adult although I don't see why not.

On google adwords my ctr is from 1.98 to 2.24 for my different ads :-)

virgohippy 2009-07-22 08:39 PM

For freesites, I'm seeing about 15-25% CTR of uniques from the whole freesite (all pages) to the desired sponsor. I haven't been keeping track of anything else lately.

How do you measure your CTR on a freesite?

Briefly:

1) Apache (access logs)
2) PHP header redirect
3) Python + RegEx = efficient access log parser

I wrote my own stats script. |thumb

Hmm, (1) is a lot of work, and a hell of a lot of link lists don't allow CGI, which kills (2) and (3). Plus redirects are a big no-no for most of them.

Anybody tried Http-204 tracking like google uses, and would it be allowed.

Every paid hosting account on a Linux/Apache server I've ever worked with has access logs enabled, so that requires no work on my part. At most I've had to request that those access logs be copied to an accessible dir every 24 hours, which has never been a problem.

My freesites don't use cgi, they're static html files. Outgoing links to the sponsor point to a file with a single line of code:

Code:

A hit to this file creates an entry in my access log, a record of the outgoing click.

I've been using PHP header redirects for my outgoing links for a couple years I think, and no link list worth submitting to has declined me so far... I can't remember any declining for it, to be honest. |huh

Parsing the access logs is the only difficult part, and even that is quite easy with Python. I wouldn't attempt it with PHP though.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the log parser is a stand alone script, in no way connected to the freesites except where I define what is a freesite.
