Puzzling Situation...

In the last week I have finally resolved my computer problems by doing a writes to zero on this hard drive and getting the drives partition setup for Windows XP. I am up and runing and have just discovered that I no longer can just drag and drop folders into my FTP Files. All files are showing up as list and not as folders as they did when running windows 98. Before I was able to just login to ftp host and view everything by folders.

How do I publish my files now? Is anyone familiar with this?

What program are you using?

I personally WS-FTP (although I've used others as well) which shows the host files on one side and your system files on another.

I don't personally use this program but this seems popular with my computer impaired friends since they say it is very easy to use.

I just looked at that site and it just might be the solution for me.

Window XP is all new to me. So I might just be over looking something right now. I only discovered it today that while in my FTP Host that I can actually use the host now to build my sites while in there all because I am using Windows XP now. Its pretty awesome but also has its set backs for me. I think Windows XP is slow as all get out. And if I get a few windows up..its tells me my virtuel memory is low. RESOURCES !

I'm a Mac user so I know pretty much nothing about Windows. lol

I personally use cute ftp (both the home and the pro version in fact)
but many times I also do a quick ftp in windows explorer (not intenrnet explorer but the one you browse your computer in) typing ftp://username@domainname.com
drag and drop like a normal computer window

Or you can set up a more permanent link like this
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...02march18.mspx

I go in by just entering this in my browser:
Hosting Account Full Path: http://DIVAD3.ehost-services126.com/

Usually I just enter it this way and then login with my password.
ftp://ehost-services126.com/

Wiether its the fact now that I am using Windows XP Professional I dont have a clue. Becasue now everything shows up as directory list for me like this...

01/03/2009 07:20AM Directory db
01/04/2009 01:06AM Directory logs
09/08/2009 04:28AM Directory StatsData
01/27/2009 11:56AM Directory www

And once I follow into my www directory its still all list from there on in at every level...
01/03/2009 07:20AM Directory _private
01/03/2009 07:20AM 1,754 _vti_inf.html
01/03/2009 07:20AM Directory _vti_log
03/03/2009 05:33PM Directory aspnet_client
01/03/2009 12:32PM 34,689 default.html
08/30/2009 04:32PM Directory jenna-teens
01/03/2009 07:20AM 2,462 postinfo.html
01/04/2009 05:18AM Directory Stats

It also gives me this direction on every window...
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer

But it does nothing for me / I can't figure that out???

I am going to download this program RIGHT NOW!

And as Rowdy is saying I definitely need more RAM in this computer.

Thanks everyone for the solution to my perplexity.

MeatPounder 2009-09-09 12:43 AM

As I said ftp in WINDOWS explorer not INTERNET explorer (you know, the my computer window. or document, music, et ) ;)

And that open in windows explorer doesn't usually work from IE as it doesn't carry the log in info over :)

But a real ftp client is always better, as I said I use cute ftp evey day but a quick windo to window drag and drop is nice at times :)

I only use filezilla to FTP. It's a great program and pretty much made for dummies.

DIVAD3 2009-09-11 09:58 AM

I'll be damned...

This was the easiest solution to it all !
And it does work in EI 8 using Windows XP.
Thank you meatpounder!

I downloaded that ftp program. But I am confused with it.
