How is traffic these days?

So I have been out of the link list, blog, tgp game for a while now since I sold smutlinks.net. Just curious how the traffic is, how much sales have decreased in general for you guys over the last few years. Some people are seeing a 10% - 40% decrease in sales.

Curious to hear what you guys are seeing on your sites, new and old.

Wow if thats true, sorry to hear that. With summer coming too I can ony imagine it getting a bit worse.

Bill 2010-03-23 06:42 PM

You got out at a good time.

The whole traffic structure and overall traffic patterns are changing.

PhoneMistress 2010-03-24 12:41 AM

The structure may be changing but submitting to link lists makes really good spider food for later. It's still worth it.

Bill 2010-03-24 02:59 AM

not really. things are bad.

Now that is a pessimistic way to look at it! Couldn't you have asked "how have things changed, up, down or staying the same?" rather that immediately assuming that everything is down?

So this is starting to sound like sarcasm.

Well I am still in the business, I just don't own/operate any link lists, tgp's etc anymore. So I know overall the economy has decreased sales. I was more or less just curious how things were going. It had been a while since I posted, and was also trying to break the ice :)

10-40%? 40% is a minimum for most people I think. I know I'm down more than 40%.

Building free sites and galleries are still worth it but you are not going to get rich doing it like many were doing in early-mid 2000's. And being down 50% might mean you still make more than you could at a day job so it's bad yes but things could be worse. Hopefully they don't get worse.

Yeah I was "assuming" the tgp/freesite side of things would be similar to paysites. I was using the 10-40% decrease based on people in the paysite world. I know we havn't taken a heavy dip, we are on the low end of the decrease, but I could imagine with more people becoming internet savvy and with the amount of tubes, free porn out there, I can imagine it is more than 40% on the marketing side of things I suppose.

Where do you see the trend going? Do you see it slowing down? Do you think its going to take a drastic change in the way people market adult sites to build traffic? I really don't see that much in the way of social networking sites for porn, why do you guys think that is? (Especially since that is the trend in mainstream).

What he said. The amount of effort and projects I have going now. My god if only I had been working this hard a couple years ago even. The money is still out there though. It just takes a hell of a lot more webs to catch those flies.

HowlingWulf 2010-03-24 11:09 AM

Well I suppose if I kept doing the same things I was doing a couple years ago sales would be down 40%. Nowadays I submit more and build more so overall sales is roughly the same, even though conversions have dropped.

For me traffic is just doing fine. More promotions needed. :D

InfoGuy 2010-03-24 03:12 PM

While online porn may be the bread and butter for most of us, that doesn't mean that as a webmaster, you can't maximize the value of your traffic by promoting other things on your website. Adam & Eve reported a record sales week only a month ago.

Thats pretty interesting actually. I never promoted Adam & Eve, but definitely another source of revenue to help level out the membership sales.

Perfect analysis. Google is destroying itself ad the best thing you can do is shorting Google in your stock portfolio to protect yourself.

I predict: Google will fail in 3 to 5 years.

Bill 2010-03-24 05:36 PM

No, it's not sarcasm, tho it might include a heavy dash of cynicism.

Ram and I are giving you the straight scoop.

Sponsors are folding, linklists as well, it's getting harder to find things that sell, or that one feels good about selling, rebills are falling, and ratios are as bad as I have ever seen them in ten years of doing this.

YMMV

We can hope it won't get worse, but I don't really see why it shouldn't get worse. Nor do I see any reason to model it out as getting better anytime soon.

kinkstercash 2010-03-25 11:31 AM

There are to many competitors now days on all the popular niches and a lot of illegal tubes posting full movies for free.

Focus on micro niches, new and original content and definitely your surfers will love that, they will be back and recommend your site.

mjgcny 2010-03-25 08:06 PM

I wouldn't give up your day job if I were you. But at the same time yes, there's still money to be made...just a hell of a lot harder to make it from link lists for one. Blogging does pretty good for me, but still takes work to make that sale.

Not like it used to be!

Which leads me to believe that it is a good thing that you work in the porn industry and not the fortune telling business! :)
