where did you learn to install a script
Hello all,
I really feel the need to learn how to install a script. Where did you learned that? Thanks |
Trial and Error :)
|
Ditto.
That and lots of searches on Google. I run a flavor of *nix on my laptop which is real sweet for trying out stuff and learning stuff as well. ;) |
I used to love playing with scripts. Back in the day, there were only a handful for free. I took a message board and turned it into a classified ad type script that you could even search. That was when I had only one site and all the time in the world to work on it.
|
Same here self taught and lots of trial and error :) Also Jim gave me a few tips a while back :)
|
See...I know what I am doing, most times. I just choose not to do scripts most of the time :)
And, I installed our mailer when nobody else could :) |
Yes you did Jim :) U da man :)
|
I tell myself that all the time MML :)
|
Trial and error, like everyone else. And lots of swearing seems to help me. And knowing when the documentation sucks and you're not going to accomplish anything by pushing further helps, too.
|
From the "Installation Instructions". Seriously.
|
IME, the Installation Instructions are usually iffy. Sometimes they're clear. Sometimes they're barely in English. Sometimes they make no sense whatsoever.
|
Thanks all,
I was hoping for some good links were they take it from the beginning. I have been on some script sites but they make no sense to me. |
Hi Troy - I've written a couple of installation tutorials over the years. One is here: http://www.php-scripts.com/php_diary/030301.php3
Also we have troubleshooted some installations on the Script School radio show before, so maybe on Fridays (2pm PST / 5pm EST) you might want to tune in and call into the show to get specific help. Happy coding to you! |afro
Hi TDavid,
Thanks for the link I have read it a couple of times and I must say its still a little to advanced for me. I have a link list and danger dave installed gossamer-threads links for me. I did some hardcoding myself after good advice so I have seen the scripting but thats all I know. I want to make my own TGP2 and install the script myself do you have any advice which script to use for that? With a good manual |jester
|waves| Hi TDavid
Trial and error, script instructions, and then begging for help from those that know more... TDavids place is a good place to start. DD |
Trial and Error for me too. But I also had too much pride from 20yrs of programming to ask anyone for help. LOL
|
Ok 2 things
How does it work. You buy a script and there will be a manual with it? And can you understand it if you don't know anything about php or java? I also want do do it the old facion way since I can't find a good link which teach you the basics and buy me a book. I have seen a lot of books but what is best to study first PHP, Java or Perl? |
I bought a script and the documentation came with it and was pretty self-explanatory. Wound up buying one cause all the free ones had pretty crappy documentation.
|
I too have also been getting into more scripts, PHP primarily. I've been procrastinating.
This site I've found helpful and found numerous scripts with thorough descriptions: www.hotscripts.com This is also my first post. w00p. |
Hi Triop and welcome,
Thanks for the interesting link. |shake
