Recommend Scripts? Dating, Chat, Forum

I'm working on a UK dating community. I've got a few scripts in mind, but I'm hoping you folks will offer some better suggestions.

I need either a dating script that will encompass dating, chat rooms, instant message, and forum features, or separate scripts.

If you know of any prefered (not to pricey) packages/scripts, I'd be eternally grateful if you could let me know. :)

All the best!

phpBazar is an open-source one. Not exactly a cadillac but not bad.

WebDate from WebScribble is a paid one. More features, a little pricey, and WARNING - it can be a massive pain in the ass to customize layouts and stuff but if you use it out of the box it's pretty good.

Those are the only two I'm familiar with

Ummmm... Phpbazar is a paid script, you can get it from http://www.smartisoft.com/ - I use it for a swingers site and I've had no problems with it at all, I recommend it ;)

Webdate, I also use that on a dating site I have - I personally prefer PhpBazar, it's more flexible ;)

PS, if you want to see phpbazar in action, take a look at http://www.swingaustralia.com

While you are on the subject of scripts, does anyone know of a good voting script, similar to something like "hot or not", or "ratemyrack", etc.

Something simple to set up would be preferred. And free would be even better!

:)

MandyD, when did you get phpBazar? Just asking because I did a billing plug-in for a client a while back and I could swear he told me he got it from sourceforge.net for free.

Nevermind. It is $99.95 - dayum, sorry for the mis-info |pcsucks|

And yeah, it was much easier to customize/tweak than WebDate - Webdate just has more functionality available (for more money of course) |shake|

PhpBazar does have a billing module available... The only thing it doesn't do that webdate does, is the instant messaging - and the webdate version of that is not reliable at all :(

Apologies for my delay in responding - I'm moving into a new house and only working 9 - 4 right now :)

venturi -- Thanks for your recommendations and appriasals. I'm looking at both of them now and they seem quite good.

MandyD -- LOVE your site. Design is also great (seems that most aussie sites have good design). Thanks also for your recommendations :)

Lastly . . . does anyone have experience/opinions of this software : http://www.aewebworks.com/ ??

Cheers!

I have looked at aewebworks quite a bit in the past (I'm a bit of a script junky :P) - I did some extensive testing of their demo site and found it full of bugs, when I spoke to the people behind it, they claimed to have fixed them, but it still didn't do what it was meant to (it did look like a brilliant system though).... Since then they have emailed me to tell me it's fixed again, but I haven't gone back to look at it....

I think I'll have a play with both scripts today. I don't think the price of phpbazar can be beat, so it already has that in its favor. In the end, the one with the best member-retaining features will come out on top. Anyway -- thanks for your info about aewebworks. I love hearing impartial views about products - especially when the products cost 700 dollars! :)

MandyD, you're right about the IM plug-in for WebDate - it does kinda suck. :) There are some other plug-ins it has that phpBazar doesn't like Video Chat, but every plug-in is more money out of your pocket and their support kinda sucks.

Another feather in phpBazar's hat is that the code itself is consistent while WD looks like it was coded by an American, a Canadian, a Russian and an Indian. It's a confusing nightmarish tower of babel once you open the hood and look inside. I wanted to mainline heroin after about 2 hours of figuring out what was where and what 50 touch points I had to hit just to change the basic layout. |pcsucks|

MandyD

Bit of an old thread, but I needed to finish another project before getting fully involved with my dating site.

I'll probably go with phpbazar. You're recommendation is good and the product itself, after much research, seems the best available for my purposes.

I just wondered about the add-ons; in particular, phpbazarsales. Would you advise me getting this add-on? I think accepting payment via paypal would be sufficient. However, since I'm in the UK, it might be advisable to open more otpions.

I'll also go with the pic libarary module. Would you also recommend the chat add-on. Is it any good? Worth the money.

Anyways...sorry to bother you, but hope you have some info that might help.

Kris :)
