? for affiliate promoters

I have read several places that affilates do not like sites that have a trial access. This is what I want to know.

I have my site, I charge 24.99 of that an affilate gets 50% plus rebills. I do not offer my trial on my regular join page. (Right now I am not offering my trail at all) I was poping a trail if the left my site with out purchasing anything.

What do you think? Would you push traffic to a site that has their trial as a pop up after the consumer was going to leave anyways? My trail was 7.95 so you would at least make about $4 instead of nothing and a chance at a re-bill. Or would you rather no pop up trail and just hope the consumer goes back and purchased with in 30 days ( for the cookie count) at the regular rate?

Do you really think most surfers join a site the firat time they are there or do they check it out and say not today, leave, see the pop up and then know they can join for a lower rate then initially advertised?

I am debating putting the trial pop back up as it did produce more initial revenue. I have not tested long enough with out it to see if the difference balances out. I just want to get others opionins.

I don't really promote trials, especially free trials. I think if you hit them with an exit console for a reduced rate that the word would get out that they don't have to pay the initial amount and would wait for the popup.

On the other hand the unsophisticated surfer who is looking for the site I send them to wants it now. They have their CC in their sweaty little hand looking for the site that will get them off now. They are not looking for a bargain.

That's why I don't promote trials. Cheap fucks who look for those are a high percentage of the charge backs IMO. Password trading sites are so popular because of these idiots in their never ending quest to cheat someone. Cheap idiots will try to scam anyone or any program.

True, a fraction, small fraction, are wavering and the reduced rate might lure them in. IMO if they are wavering they will be back in the next 48 hours to join at the full price. ;)

All this is not to say I haven't sold trials. I have no control over what a sponsor decides to use on his tours. Just the choice to continue my campaign or start new ones. :D

I like trials & I don't like trials - LOL It is harder to convert the site if there is no trial, but you make more money if they pay the full price right off the bat :)

I do like the pop-up idea :)

But maybe you can put into place an option for the wemaster to pick & choose what they promote?

Trials yes if it's a Pay Per Signup sponsor
Trials no if it's a recurring sponsor

BTW I signed up for your program Sammy, is $25 the lowest amount there is before my checks are send? I'd like to push it to $100 or so due to the high rates the banks ask to cash a US check.

The join page exit popup with a trial offer would be my vote.

Thank you guys for your insight. I think I will keep with the no trial for now and see how my (and my affilates) reveune goes.

I agree that some surfers do sign up immediately but I think the majority have seen my site once or twice before they become members and then know they can join for a fraction of what they should be paying.

I know my retention is longer for the guys who purchase a month anyways. The guys that get the trial usually cancle before they even enter the members area.

I was just curious if I was actully converting an "ify" to a yes guy with a trial, but it doesn't really sound like I am.

Fonz, I am checking into that option for you. :-)

Thanks Guys

Hey Sammy - when are you gonna get us link list owners some more hosted free sites? :D

Sammy4u 2004-03-19 10:39 AM

No problem Greenguy. I will work on them this weekend.
What type of site do you need the most?

Greenguy 2004-03-19 11:36 AM

Try & cover the niches that you have - solo, lesbian, bi, group, webcam, blonde, petite, etc.

Surfn 2004-03-19 01:17 PM

I could only use 5 sites because of the duplicate pics for different niche |sad|

Ditto... diff pics per site would be a big plus.

While your all here, Sammy/Brett and Toni/I was just talking about this a few weeks ago, which would you rather use/have for hosted galleries, mpgs or wmvs? Or does it even matter to you?

Greenguy 2004-03-19 09:19 PM

Doesn't matter much to me

I hate wmvs, very much like mpgs. Maybe this is because I don't use Windows. I can play both, but have to download wmvs to my desktop to play them unless the page has a player embedded in it so just linking to the wmvs means I have to download it first. Also it is easy to use htaccess to protect mpgs, but htaccess doesn't work with wmvs.

I don't like trials at all...I've done trials in the past and it actually created less revenue for us. One of the problems with trials is that once the member knows that you offer a trial he/she will just join using the trial all the time. And most of the surfers that do join using a trial just aren't good for business. They know they only have 3 days to rip all your content out of your site. So most of the time they try to download your whole site...I've also seen my bandwidth bill increase when I've offered trials...just bad business if you ask me. I guess I can only see the trials benefitting the pay per sign up affiliate, and no one else.

At LotzaDollar$ we do not offer any trials on any of our sites. We pay on consoles and have tours with or without them. Your choice. We also have free hosted sites, galleries, and tons of fpa's, hpa's, and banners to choose from.
