# of words in text Link Description- more or less?
 

Hey folks,

In AEBN they have the hosted galleries and allow you to select the # of words for the description from a dropdown.

3,4 or 5 word descriptions.

Does anyone have any data that shows a shorter or longer description is more likely to get people to click?

I sort of like the 5 word description for link text because without an image I feel the more descriptive the better.

But there must be a reason they have the drop down and the choice for just 3 word descriptions. :)

What do you pick and have ya played around between 3 vs 5 word descriptions? What tends to be the common thought on which is better in this case?

Submission scripts vary on the number of letters they allow in the description field. That's the reason.

I prefer longer descriptions, figure more for the spiders to chew on.
