IPv4 and IPv6 users alike

Can you hit the following page:

http://cd34.com/ds.html

And let me know if it gives a box with a green, yellow, or red background, and how quickly it did so?

I suspect only a person or two will see a green background, those running Windows 7 will probably see a yellow background. Those with only IPv4 (probably most of you) should see a red background with only an IPv4 address.

Thanks.

Red, instantly.

cd34 2011-04-26 04:22 PM

Teredo detection appears to be broken currently - working on that.

ArtWilliams 2011-04-26 04:25 PM

Red slow.

Art, you run linux a lot right? do you have IPv6 on your local ethernet card?

do

/sbin/ifconfig eth0 (or whatever your ethernet card is)

and does it have something like:

inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe8f:df54/64 Scope:Link

if so, it appears that your machine might think it has ipv6, is able to see the ipv6 DNS listing, but, thinks that it might be able to route.

I see nothing, but I hear voices...:D

jk, red with IPv4

ArtWilliams 2011-04-26 05:49 PM

Using Fedora 13, I get:

inet6 addr: fe80::216:d3ff:feb4:386f/64 Scope:Link

The issue right now appears to be machines that have IPv6 configured, but, not routed. Some Teredo tunneled machines (Windows 7) have a 2-3 second lag before IPv6 comes up and it properly colors the box. As a result, I might change the box a little. People with IPv6 or only IPv4 are seeing the red box almost immediately.

I think I've got a little redesigning to do.

can you do

ping6 ipv6.colo-cation.com

and tell me if it lags before giving host unreachable?

terry 2011-04-26 06:07 PM

IPv4 ... I see a pink box (but I'll play along and say its red)
It displays instantly.

I thought it was pink too but lacking a pink choice I said red.

Ipv4, red, instantly

ArtWilliams 2011-04-26 07:04 PM

Instantaneously it says:

connect: Network is unreachable

If you have ipv6, the board is now running dual-stack.

babymaker 2011-04-27 08:18 PM

I get this:

IPv4: 71.58.12.207
IPv6: 2002:473a:ccf::473a:ccf

on redish background win7 pro comcast :)

Are you running a Teredo tunnel? or are you in the comcast beta? If the former, you should get a yellow background, if the latter, it should have been green.

Greenguy 2011-04-28 06:15 AM

Instant Pink - just like free porn!

MeatPounder 2011-04-28 12:39 PM

LOL, Had me worried when I was seeing pink instead of red :)

I am not sure?? How do I find out? What is a Teredo tunnel?

cd34 2011-04-29 09:24 AM

Teredo is Windows 7 built in tunnel in conjunction with a number of providers. By default, it is enabled, but, DNS resolution is turned off so that you'll have ipv6 for any site that is specifically ipv6.

http://ipv6-test.com/ does something similar and will tell you what your status is. If it says IPv6 is configured, but IPv4 is preferred, then you probably have a Teredo tunnel enabled on your machine. I believe it is the default for Windows 7. There is a registry entry (which I wouldn't suggest unless you were really curious) that you can flip that means you can hit dualstack sites and will prefer ipv6.

http://ipv6.google.com/ is one other destination that is a reasonably good test.
