Do I need to just start looking at what other sites are using s sponsors or is there a list of mainstream sponsors someplace?
I thought it would be good to setup a mainstream sponsors list.

I haven't added referral codes... but will if no one has complaints.

These are just some of the main ones I use, I am interested to see what others use also (there are a 1000s more):

CJ
Shareasale
Affiliate Window
Clixgalore
Ebay Partner Network
Affiliate Future
Market Health
Paid on Results
Link Share

Go ahead and add your codes. It isn't like you are. Drive by spammer.

I've done a little with Amazon, on a book review site I set up ages ago, but the payout percentage is pretty small. What's the typical payout for most mainstream sponsors? I would imagine it varies somewhat by category, i.e. hard goods vs services.

Do they ask to see a URL of yours when you apply? I'm thinking that I need to put up something non adult with a non adult email address.

Like a kayaking blog or something.

I can't remember if epn ask to see a website, but most do - so I would say yes.

I got into epn at the very beginning, but know that they have tightened everything up - so I can't help there.

I do know that they are available to use on the following networks though (last I heard) - so maybe try joining through them.

Pepperjam Network
Mediaplex
TradeDoubler
Affilinet

but I have not joined those - so I can't confirm.

Mainstream sponsors payouts can vary hugely and there are different types - here are some random ones from one of mine:

Lead: $15.00 - $18.00 USD
Sale: 6.00% USD
Sale: 10.00% EUR, 5.00 € EUR
Sale: 3.00% - 6.00% USD
Lead: 4.00 € EUR
Lead: £43.00 GBP
Sale: 5.00% USD
Sale: 5.00% USD
Lead: 2.00 € EUR
Lead: 6.00 € EUR
Lead: 3.50 € - 4.50 € EUR
Sale: $50.00 USD
Sale: $75.00 USD
Lead: $2.00 - $25.00 USD

Some do Performance Incentives also.

Looks like starting with this link I need something mainstream to show them.

Looks like step one is to do a mainstream blog.

Most mainstream sponsors do... its best to make a nice and simple site with good content - I had most of mine applications approved using a site I had made that morning to begin with

Yes, they do want to see a website, and I had a mainstream site I used in the application. I checked around and was told they only accept a few applications. That was a couple of years ago. I have heard it's a great program if you can get in.

http://clickbank.com is another one. Its good for starting out as they dont require a website to sign up.

However, stats tracking tends to be a slight bit flaky and you must research a product before you promote it.

They are mainly good for promoting information products, but they require a better prresell than other items.

Adcell.de lists new programs pretty much every day, but everything in their admin is pretty much in German!

Some of the programs are local, and others are global!

A few samples:
Battlestar Galactica Online
New Registration: 0.50 €
User registration Pay: 1.00 €
Sale: 20.00% of sales for a year
***
Mixmaster MMORPG Online
Standard: 0.70 € per free registration
Premium: 1.10 € per free registration
***
FastEnergy Heating Oil
- Germany, Austria
7.00 € for each brokered sale.

Problem with Amazon is that they have a 24 hour cookie

While that is a problem, it is consired to use very good buying keywords that impulse the customer to buy the item right away. My favorite is when they go ahead and buy tons of other stuff to go with it.

Amazon is such a huge brand name people will not hisitate about buying it twice or looking somewhere else.

This is also where its important to be using keywords a customer would be searching to go directly that item to buy it.
