I have been out of this industry for the last 4 years, doing a lot of other online stuff.
I thought that it would be fun to start something from the scratch again, so here I am |waves|

Now: Could someone get me up to date - What has happened since 2007, where TGP where the hottest stuff, and movies where something you could still rent on a VHS tape |catfight|

Is it all tubes, or are people still into pics?

Cleo 2011-06-09 11:17 AM

It's all ASCII pics now.

Ramster 2011-06-09 12:34 PM

There are those that still like pics yes for sure.

Tubes are huge now. Competition is tough.

That makes it a lot more fun :D
I have registered a domain, and installed a tubescript.

I'm going to document the whole process here: badwebmaster.com, so please feel free to drop by, and throw a comment or some good advise - I might need it :D

$2k on tube scripts? it's a whole new world, and you just made some script marketers happy.

I'm in the wrong business. I write Perl scripts to use on my own sites, but perhaps I should stop bothering to run the sites and just sell the scripts!

Yep - We gotta keep the wheels spinning :D
I dont mind spending a few bucks, rather than put all my money on one horse;)

Bill 2011-06-12 07:49 AM

well man, you are getting into teh tube game late, and it's not as easy to duplicate the tube model as it used to be to set up TGPs and build up the traffic for them.

as a traffic model, tubes have been inherently more centralized and monolithic, more of a closed club. what we used to do, as gallery posters and TGP owners, hasn't been transferred to the tube universe.

but, it will sure be interesting to see your experiment. I'm sure everyone will be interested.

where do you figure to get your content from?

Yeah but unless you are already earning a fortune, $2K is more than you could earn in the time it takes to write your own script, so it would be more cost/time effective to write your own script! Plus you would have the advantage that it would be 100% designed to do EXACTLY what you wanted it to do. And if you decided to change the site later, it is easier to do if you wrote the script as you will know how it needs changing.

Wow! Good luck man.

TB Adriana 2011-06-13 10:00 AM

i think 2k is way to much for a script like that. I could have gotten it for you much cheaper.

I gotta disagree with you here Bill

It is not too late to get into the tube game. Will you become Pornhub? Likely not. But if you can build a niche tube or even a regular tube and build traffic to it you can make money. A small tube could still earn a couple of grand a month just like a small TGP does for people or small link lists. Who knows, maybe you will become bigger and make some real cash. The big tubes make millions so build a small one and makes thousands.

I have some friends in the tube game, re-doing sites and adding/re-doing their tube sites. They bought the cheap scripts and now they're dropping big money on better tube scripts, I think it's $1000-$1500 for mech bunny script but they say it is suppose to be the best.

A script is worth whatever the customer pays for it. But I don't think he paid $2K for one script, but for several scripts, to see which was best. However I do feel that for $2K he could have got some coder to write a script from scratch, so that it did exactly what he wanted, in the way he wanted it done. And would also be easy to adapt if he changed his mind, or wanted something slightly different on another site.

I think you are right. And yes a coder would be nice to have. The more expensive scripts are open source so you can get a coder afterwards to do to it whatever you need, which is ideal if you can afford one.

Maybe so. It would be fascinating to see that happen.

You and I travel and converse in different strata, so it's entirely possible you are right.

I don't see new little tubes making it in the serps, but, that doesn't mean they aren't, perhaps I'm not looking right, and I'm not looking all that hard for them.

I dunno, I probably would have bought something like tubeace or sonething cheaper to start, see how the traffic emerged, then as the folks you mention appear to be doing, upgrading.

Anybody else here making money on their tube projects?

I didn't pay 2K for one script, but has actually bought 4 of them. There was some server issues with one, requiring me to change OS on the server, which I didnt want to. Another didn't support mobile, and the third had a rotten backend.

I have actually chosen Mechbunny, which costs $1300, so that's the biggest part of the spend.

I have the site setup, and am waiting for a design for it. I am, as I wrote, quite new to tube sites, so I wouldn't know what to want from a custom script, and I think this was the best solution for me.

One thing that convinced me, was that support normally took 2-3 days from the other scripts, but Konrad from Mechbunny never seem to sleep.

One thing I found with the majority of the cheaper scripts, as well as with mechbunny, is that they suck when it comes to seo. If someone doesn't know what to correct in a script, and dont bother to write original copy to descriptions, I dont see how they should show up in the SERP's.

My strategy is to optimize the script to SE's, and write original copy (actually I have hired someone to do this, since I am not fluent in english, as you might have noticed).

But we'll see how it goes..

good luck, if you need content we have plenty ;)
