How are you coastal folks doing with the hurricane?

Tommy's on Long Island - maybe the windward side I dont remember - hope he's doing okay in the storm.

Not coastal, but we were hit in New York. It wasn't bad at all, but a lot of roads are closed. Was a bitch getting to work today.

They are showing the Jersey floods on CNN now, looks pretty bad.

Im from NJ, we got hit pretty hard, more in particular the areas around me within a 1-2 mile radius. tons of flooding...luckily we only had 1 downed tree in our back yard which took out only a small section of our neighbors fence, better than the house!

no problems here either, small problems with power, some flooding but not that bad like they said it would be :)

Keep an eye on Katia that just started, but will be a major hurricane before it even gets to the Caribbean!

Looks much like the projected path for Irene!

Irene
Katia

Katia is already at roughly the same latitude as Irene was, but, is considerably East and will turn well before it hits the leeward islands. Hurricanes that follow over other hurricane tracks are somewhat disadvantaged as the previous hurricane will lower the temperature of the water under its track by a few degrees and a hurricane needs warm water to grow.

Katrina water temperature map

Since Irene was a big storm, it will weaken Katia if Katia follows the same path since Irene will have affected the surface water temperatures.

Current Katia models

Man, I hope we don't get another hurricane. Road closures make me :(

~NH~ 2011-08-30 12:14 PM

Things Were Not That Bad In My Area (Sotheast NH On Mass Line) But Further North Sounds Like It Was Alot Worse With Flooding And Such. Im Grateful We Never Lost Power/Cable At All.

Weather Channel Is Already Hyping Up That Next Hurricane Saying It Could Follow The Same Path As Cd Mentioned.

So many people didn't realize a hurricane is NOT just about wind.
It is also a massive CIRCULAR slow moving weather system that spends most it's time over water gathering moisture.
