Redo gallery with more standard dense packed pics?

I was thinking that I was just about finished working on a gallery when I noticed that my eyes hurt from looking at it because the background was too bright. Then, as my usual solution to lots of problems, I went back and coded up a bunch of css to make the page less bright. After too much effort and a little thought I went and looked through galleries on the Hun and free sites and noticed that I tend to code galleries with a fair amount space between/around each thumb compared to the way most galleries, including good ones, seem to be built.

Would someone be willing to share a reason why keeping the thumbs close together is a better approach?

Also ... I now have a gallery that I think looks OK and am planning to submit it to The Hun and AL4A and maybe some other places. Should I recode the gallery with close together pics or submit as is?

Gallery here: http://www.toosxxx4.com/galleries/na...te/thehun.html

Yes, I know that The Hun has their own board but it seems to be less active than here.

Thanks,
fg

It's a lot easier for my eyes to skip over your ads that way.

I found HowlingWulf's reply quite enlightening. Thanks. This one time I have updated the gallery with tweaks to compensate for the problem but expect to take a more compact design approach in the future. I have renamed the page from the first posting of the thread to http://www.toosxxx4.com/galleries/na...gg_thread.html for anyone coming across this in the future.

My rule is to never have thumbs showing without at least part of an ad showing.
