"Ontario’s top court has legalized brothels and will allow prostitutes to have security and other staff that is specifically aimed at protecting prostitutes.

In a landmark decision Monday, the court said that prostitution is extremely dangerous work where inherent risks are multiplied by laws preventing prostitutes from working together under one roof or hiring security staff."

This is an appeal of an earlier ruling. It will certainly be appealed again to the Supreme Court but all of the decisions so far have been strongly in favour of the sex trade workers. (Ontario is home to Canada's capital city, Ottawa, and the largest city, Toronto.)

Prostitution shouldn't be illegal in the first place.

My dad's side of the family is from Tronto. Apparently, my great grandmother ran a "massage" parlor there. |thumb Glad to see they are looking to finally legalize it. Since I live in a state where it is legal, and a brothel about 5 miles from me, I am all for it.

Canada seems to be in the right step to a better understanding of human rights. But I hope this also protects the gay and transgendered prostitutes too, not just the ladies.

With all of the religious fanatics in the US I don't really think we'd see it legal everywhere anytime soon. However the safety aspect for the prostitutes really is worth taking a look into. It really would make things much nicer for the prostitutes involved and I too am all for it.

In Canada, there have been a number of court cases trying to get rid of the laws. It was the safety angle that made judges change their minds. This after a serial killer in British Columbia mudered a number of them over a period of years. The police wer almost universally damned for not taking their plight seriously.
