Hmmmm - the ICM stuff is humdrum but I am fascinated bythe micropayments talk - micropayments are one of those things, like true digital signatures and emoney, that promise to revolutionaize everything.

Yeah, but there are already companies who do this, and it makes very little money. The only way this would work is if it were done with the advertising clout of a company as big as Apple. And even then I doubt if it would work, because it would require advertising on TV, radio, magazines, newspapers, etc. And can you see that type of company carrying an ad along the lines of "Get your cheap porn here"!

dunno. if so, i hope it crashes like the earlier micropay systems.

if not, I hope it succeeds.

basically, it all depends on the margin. if the micropay processor has to suck a big margin, people will probably pass.

so, the tech has to be simple and fast enough to allow something like a 1-1.5% margin and still be profitable.

yes, well, gaming money has that social reinforcement thing happening, that makes it work inworlds - but gaming money is not liquid outworlds.

hard to see how porn money could have the same social reinforcement as game money. you get no benefit outfitting a cool avatar in the porn world.

micropays need to be highly liquid to be workable - or based on legal tender with a very kind margin.

No, I don't own any .xxx domains, and have no intention of buying any. However I think you misunderstood what I was saying.

If, as you hope, the system crashes then ICM get lots more money. So if what you want to happen, happens, it will be a good thing for .xxx and a bad thing for those who don't want .xxx!

However although ICM will benefit, adult webmasters will suffer. And although I sometimes jokingly refer to any law that puts other webmasters out of business as a good thing because it reduces my competition, I am only joking, I don't really mean it. So anything like a crash in a payment system that fucks over webmasters is a bad thing. Even if you and I not among the webmasters who suffer. And even if it does mean we get some of their customers!
