If I was going to redo link-o-rama.com from scratch...

I remember answering in this thread that, if I was gonna start from scratch, I'd create my Link List the way I did with Sunshine Lesbians. But the more I think about it- and the more I see what pc is doing with his main Link List, I'd hire him to make me a version of Clit Pass.

There are so many bells & whistles on this site that I find my head spinning at times:
- Since you need an account to submit, he gives the surfer a page of just your links- Greenguy At Clit Pass
- Each links has a preview thumb & he gives you the option to upload up to 5 full size preview/sample images
- You can add up to 5 tags and they don't have to be just one word if you-use-dashes
- You can spam his Twitter with your links after you submit
- He accepts a variety of site submits (and you can select Pictures, Movies, or Pics/Vids Mixed for each):
° Free Sites
° Galleries
° Blogs
° Tubes
° Stories
- He also lets you post/submit:
° Blog Posts
° Individual Videos
- You can arrange trades with him thru the admin
- You can link up your account to your Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Stumble Upon
- When you submit a site/page, it's also submitted to his myriad of other sites
- His admin gives you some useful stats, like how many sites/pages you've submitted, total clicks, etc.
- Each submit has it's own individual page- example- where the surfer can leave comments. There's also a link to Clitpedia where you can see all the other sites/pages on that domain that you'd submitted- example
- Your submits are automatically added when the site refreshes each hour
- When you submit, all you need to put in is the URL & the script drags back most of the necessary info for the forms (assuming your page is properly set up) like your Title & Description
- You have the option of linking to him from the root of your domain as far as the recip, so you can create sites/pages that are not loaded up with recip links

...and there's probably a lot more that I've not yet to discover. Plus, he's always adding new things, the latest being able to add a description to the sample pics you post with your submit.

Clit Pass is, by far, the best example of what a Link List (or whatever you want to call it) should be.

Do you really want to redo LOR or it is just harmless speculation? :)

I could not begin to fathom doing any of that to 32,526 links :D

whats the script?

thx for the free announcement btw.

If I was to do it again from the scratch, Pligg or something like it would be the choice of the script. The one I'm using, it's not supported anymore, and very outdated, most modifications I did are let say ... very smart tricks build on older tricks and so on. One time I remember, in order to incorporate something I had to learn of how to build simple php script to modify all the links that were in the DB already.

One thing should be mentioned here, in my opinion first site that really went one step ahead of the original idea of a Link-List was UW's Perv Box, was the site that inspired me, when I saw those lovely tags there, I knew that I need to have tags too, ( well ... blog posts too:) , I even PM UW about it then). Other ideas were born in the process of fixing the templates structure or were borrowed from mainstream sites.

But by the end of the day, sites like LOR , Shemp, Danger Dave or Tommy's Bookmarks brings out the most traffic.

Very impressive. Seriously hadn't visited PC's site in awhile. That's cool what's going on there now! Food for thought too.

What about loyal followers who are accustomed to the layout, design, and just simply how things work on LOR? Do you think the change would be accepted by the majority? Would it really matter if not since you could possibly attract a whole new slew of submitters and viewers with the new changes?

I never said I was going to redo Link O'Rama, I'm just saying that if I was gonna start it from scratch back in 1996-1997, I'd have it do all the stuff mentioned above :)

Panky 2012-08-08 11:25 AM

I never said you were going to redo LOR. It was a hypothetical question to carry on the discussion. People toss the idea around all the time whether they should change their site and to what extent.

Had you implemented these concepts back in the 90's, you really would have created an advanced site beyond any competitor at the time. :D
