Is there a term or phrase for this:

Let's say something is going good for me, like Google started to like a domain of mine, or I'm doing really good with a sponsor, basically a positive thing that's going on that only I know about.

99.44% of the time when I put it out there, not so much bragging, but just sharing that there's something positive going on in my life (personal or business), the thing that was going good suddenly tanks.

Using the examples above, Google would go back to the level it was before I told anyone (sometimes it goes to worse than before), or the sponsor suddenly stops converting or retaining.

Anyone know what this is called?!

I'm not superstitious but still I'm always hesitant to talk about any bit of good luck that I'm having because it seems as soon as I do things go badly.

One client I'm working mainstream leads for... This girl I'm working with... we don't talk directly about things. We never want to jinx things and we are completely superstitious about the current month. Once the month closes that's when we pour over things. It's fucking psycho yet when things having rolling really well... It's kinda like when a pitcher is pitching a no no. Don't talk about. |loony|

And yet most of the people posting an "I don't talk about this in case I jinx it" type post claim to be atheists. Exactly why is it more sensible to believe in an all powerful Jinx than it is to believe in an all powerful God?????

However thanks for starting this thread G, and thanks for your reply Simon. My current biggest project involves spell books, and you have just given me an idea for the next book - "How to un-jinx yourself".

I've met many people who claim to be atheists and agnostics but who still seem to believe in one form or another of Magical Thinking. It's like we're hard-wired not to be comfortable without some myth or superstition to define us.

For me personally, this really sums it up...

Magical Thinking... The last magical thinking person that I hung out with I caught putting her menstrual blood in my tea. She thought that doing this would enable her to possess me and do her bidding. Never ate or drank anything from her again after that.

What I really found funny though is when she found out I had a witch's ball hanging over the window in the kitchen. I had bought it at a renaissance festival because it was pretty and I liked how it looked when the sun came though the window. She was so terrified of it that she never set foot in my house again.

Actually I haven't heard from her in some years. Maybe she really is trapped in the witch's ball. :D
