www.link-o-rama.com submit script broke?

I have been trying since yesterday to submit a link on this page:
http://www.link-o-rama.com/greenguy/email.shtml

I have a recip on the first page of the site I am submitting, and am following all the rules listed here:
http://www.link-o-rama.com/greenguy/therules.htm

When I fill out the form, it takes about 15 seconds (or more) and tells me there's the following errors:
Code:

Error!
Your submission could not be accepted for the following reason(s):
A reciprocal link is required and no reciprocal link was found.
Your Site's URL appears invalid, as it has returned the response "500 Unable To Connect".

My site is online and the recip is on the top of the first page. Can someone take a look at this?

NJ, that don't sound like it is 100% a script error.

That means they were unable to connect to your server. Did you just put up this domain, has it moved, or has the IP or DNS information changed in the last 7 days? Where is your server located? Is your host having any connectivity issues?

There are all sorts of possibly issue here...

Yeah - that error means that my server can't get to your site - this is usually cause by a bad router or dns problems/issues like Raw Alex said.

Thanks for the replies.

The site has been online for about 3 weeks to a month. It's hosted with Nat Net.

Is there any other way to submit a site? :) If not I guess I will have to wait it out.

Well I am still having the same problem and it's been about a week. I don't think routing issues typically take this long to get fixed, and my site is receiving traffic and being hit by bots. Is there any way this can be looked into?

IF you use IE there is a bug that can cause this. MS has a patch available to fix it.

I am up to date with MS and I've tried with Netscape 4.8 and get the same result. :(

NJ make sure you put the page name in the URL as well..

http://www.domain.com/dir/index.html

not

http://www.domain.com/dir/

Also try both of those the DDave suggested without the www. - stranger things have worked :D

NJ 2004-04-20 09:33 AM

Well, I've tried just about everything. Even changing my index page to index.html instead of index.php. I've tried with and without www as well in the domain name.

Is there a manual way of submitting a link? I really wanted to give this a shot. :)

There's probably a problem in the route between your server and his server. There's not much you can do... he could try a few things like pinging your IP server from his box, and if it replies, edit his resolv.conf so his box can find your domain properly.

Well, of course first he really must be willing to help you. I wouldn't expect this from a site owner just because it can be a lot of work, specially if several people want him to do it too. ;)

RawAlex 2004-04-20 02:36 PM

How about posting a link to your site so that we can have a look and see...?

It's working here.

swedguy 2004-04-20 04:47 PM

Since both of you are hosted on NatNet, but you are using your own nameservers. My guess is that NatNet has your domain in their own nameservers (but with the wrong info). I can't try that from here, but if you could log in on your NetNet box with SSH or telnet and type this...

nslookup graduating-cheerleaders.com NS1.NATIONAL-NET.COM

or

dig @NS1.NATIONAL-NET.COM graduating-cheerleaders.com

If it says anything else than "69.50.134.89" as IP address for your domain, then there you have the problem.

Please forgive me. I don't know which rule I broke, but I am VERY new to this. I've only recently starting trying to get my sites listed on lists and am learning as I go.

Part of the reason I submitted my lesbian site to you Cleo was to see if I was going to have the same problem I have been with link-o-rama. I didn't have the same problem with submitting the site, but I was denied via email. I guess I am a moron for not seeing the very obvious rule or rules I broke.

I will get it sooner or later, but your response is still appreciated.

Cleo 2004-04-20 05:40 PM

I don't use the same script as Greenguy does so it is unlikely you would run into the same problems, not that my script doesn't cause its own problems.

Yeah you need to take a step back and always read link list's rules.

Also it probably isn't a good idea to be submitting the root of your domains to anybody. Build sites in sub-directories and submit those.

You need several more recips and sub to them all.

vangend 2004-04-21 04:36 PM

I just had the same problem, same error message. But I clicked back and resubmit and all worked fine.

NJ 2004-04-21 04:52 PM

Thanks vangend, I just tried it to no avail. I don't have shell access to my server so I may just give up on this. I just wanted to try Greenguy's list out since I've heard good things about the traffic.
