How Far Can We Take It?
 

Okay I'm setting up these projects - one free, one pay - and I really need your input. Assuming you have no personal taboos, how far can we take the content/theme of a site? Obviously, cp and incest are out of the equation.

I basically grew up on a healthy diet of 70s porn flicks, low-buget video nasties, and Starskey and Hutch. Needless to say, I'm more twisted than a politician. I want to put more of my personality into my work, knowing just how far I can take it so - within those boundaries - I don't feel constrained.

I don't want to start another legal debate tho! :) Just let me know what you think is totally out - legally speaking.

In your area the Laws may be different, the most important thing about being in this business weather large or small is having some proffesional council you can pick up the phone and get some answers from.

GG&J is a great place but I dont believe any of us are lawyers, and even if we were we arent for all area's, and we certainly wouldnt do it for free :)

BTW -- Extreme John...you're spot on there. The more I get involved, the more necessary legal advice seems. Right now I just play it safe, doing what I know is allowed in the U.S (where I'm hosted) and I'll always keep to U.S laws, but I'll need legal council soon.

Kristian: I vote double on the "get a lawyer" thing... I think you might also want to chat with whoever would be processing for your site. I suspect you will see that Visa / Mastercard will have some interesting restrictions for you. Things like scat / watersports are pretty hard to get processing for any more.

Anything non-consentual is very questionable, doubly so if you are doing your "user submitted pictures" concept. Then you start getting into the question of who forced who, etc. Working without model releases is hard, working with potentially non-consentual stuff might negate whatever other solution you have come up with.

If you were in the US, I would suggest a little trip to your local porn store / video store and see what is for sale. That will give you a very good idea what is generally legal in your neighborhood. Not sure what you would do in the UK...

Where are your servers located? That might help you decide how wild or not you can be.

RawAlex --- You're totally right. Think my best bet is a U.S lawyer as well. They just don't get it in the UK. You mention internet law to solicitors over here and they get that night of the living dead look. I spoke to an internet lawyer over the phone and was no use too.

Okay...I was right to come here before I got too involved. For both the pay & free the themes are 100% consensual. I'll have to tone down the free site, but I reckon I'm good-to-go with the other. I'm not into these things personally (well, occaisionally, I like to fist a midget and cool her down with a roman shower); I find them, in many cases, horrific.
