Totalnic does not exist

It's nearly noon in Australia -
I have been trying to call Totalnic to figure the status of Markslinks.com.
The number they have on the contact page is a US number
Totalnic contact page

DD - has been searching for an AU # but has come up empty.

At this point, I'm more than a bit irate.

I suggest that if ANYONE is using to Totalnic for a registrar, I would move All domains immediately. I don't care where you move them, just move them off of Totalnic.

(and yeah, this may become personal :) )

That sucks!! |lightsabe

Useless 2004-04-19 10:37 PM

Totalnic sucks

Totalnic is just a 15 year old kid in his parent's basement on an eight year old Imac who can only take cashiers checks because he is not old enough to sign up for credit card processing. Or so I have been told. Doh, I'm invoking legal remedy and refuse to discuss this any further!|pissleft|

Don't know if this article will help:

One message from TotalNIC said because of "upstream" difficulties, it would need the following to transfer a name.

"The domain name or domain names; a copy of the driver's license or picture page from the passport for the Administrative contact; on letterhead, a letter from the Registrant acknowledging the validity of the Administrative claim and; on letterhead, a letter from the Administrative contact asserting that they are the legal representative for the domain name(s). These items must be typewritten, notarized and sent to our CORE offices at Capital Networks, PTY LTD; PO Box 383; Dickson, ACT 2602; Australia. Please note that we have been informed that these requests are legal and will help insure the safety of your domain name, as well as those of our other customers

Ms Naughty 2004-04-20 07:23 PM

Shit... I've got a pr6 domain with them, I was going to transfer it and forgot!!!

Damn damn damn damn

dareutwo 2004-04-21 12:19 AM

Going the Big Gun route -
Icann has been notified... now let's just see if something happens.

gnomey 2004-04-21 10:01 AM

Good luck Dare.. this is a real pisser. Hope you can get someone to light a fire under their ass.

Pornopat 2004-04-21 10:38 AM

Hmm I just typed in their name in google. Seems like a lot of people are trying to hunt them down for some time allready...

Old Sarge 2004-04-21 03:05 PM

Good luck on transferring your domain. I've been trying with these clowns for 6 months. It's amazing how many excuses they can come up with. Here are a two:

1. Can't transfer within 30 days of expiration.
2. Can't transfer within 60 days of renewal.

They emailed me a transfer form after I had met the above requirements and I sent it in 2 months ago and still nothing. I honestly don't believe I will ever get it moved away from these guys!

Surfn 2004-04-21 03:10 PM

Hi Old Sarge |waves| welcome to the board :)

The list of people getting fucked by them is growing longer and longer daily |sad|

urb 2004-04-21 04:11 PM

Guess what I found...

http://www.totalnicsucks.com/

The largest image on their site seems to be http://www.totalnic.net/Images/Background.gif

Now, I ain't suggesting anything.... I just thought you may wanna know that.

Ms Naughty 2004-04-21 10:26 PM

I have a horrible, horrible sinking feeling.

I paid my $6.95 to Godaddy to transfer the domain, but it could not occur because the domain is "locked".

I've emailed Totalnic, no reply.

And I've just looked at my Visa statement. Seems they charged me A$40 to renew the domain in February. Not $20...

I hadn't really been paying attention to the registrar before. Now I'm feeling a bit like an idiot.

Dare, perhaps I need to write a letter to ICANN too
:(

Ms Naughty 2004-04-21 10:47 PM

I found this thread on a message board about TotalNIC.
http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135235

They've been doing this for several years, it seems.

Apparently the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission were investigating but I can't find the results of that.

ICANN have received plenty of complaints about TotalNIC and have produced this policy aimed at making it easy to transfer domains.
http://www.icann.org/transfers/

I don't know when they will enforce it.

dareutwo 2004-04-21 11:27 PM

Things above your head you take for granted.
Like Registrars, and how they work, does anyone know that biz?
I certainly don't, though now on a fast learning curve.

At first, I thought I could actually create an income dent by exposing them to this board. Apparently, they didn't need my help.

My next course will be closing them down totally and trying to get google to adjust.

Ms Naughty 2004-05-11 08:11 PM

Just reviving this thread to provide an update.

I finally got a reply to my request for a transfer.

They won't unlock the domain within [censored] days of a monetary transaction.

That's [censored] months, folks.

At least they're not requiring photocopies of my passport, but the form they sent me requires me to [censored] them from any [censored]... something I'm not too keen to do.

Oh, and the bottom of their email tells me I'm prohibited from showing anyone else the form. So I'll do what they say and won't post it here :)

It's not a nice feeling to be trapped like this :(

Edit: Since these people are holding my domain hostage, and they could possibly send a lawyer after me for posting about this, I have censored the details, and you can fill in the blanks.

dareutwo 2004-05-11 08:36 PM

I haven't heard anything back after 2 more letters.
But they say
Quote:

within 150 days of a monetary transaction
I would not be surprised if they mean either way, before or after a transaction... leaving you 65 days to unlock and move.

jsand199 2004-05-11 09:47 PM

It would seem to be that ICANN, would simply not allow them to get any new customers. This is really crazy.

Why are all of these different companies doing this anyway if there is just one place, ICANN, that makes it official?
