Monday, December 12th - The Calm Before The Storm

In the 11 years I have lived here in Finland, I don't remember hearing about many blizzards in the western part of the country. We have one due to hit in just a few hours. The Husband is making sure his elderly parents are well stocked and ready at the same time he is is getting extra cat food and people food for us. His propane tank is ready, we have candles, and plenty of wood for warmth. I am actually excited. Our area may see ... several INCHES of snow. (not feet, inches. This is NOT Buffalo!) We had a good dump yesterday, but I have not seen the plows on our little street. I did hear them on the larger road.

Better get to the porn while I can...

Good Morning :)

We've actually had real rain the last couple of days. This of course means I had to go out and clear drains which thankfully I was able to do without hurting the back. Of course I immediately came in and laid down.

Son came over yesterday to help the wife bring down Xmas decorations and pick up a tree so the house looks a little more festive indoors.

I have back therapy today and besides that I'll be laying flat working as I think I've been spending too much time in recliner.

Anyhoo, Enjoy your Monday!

When we moved back to JPN some 10 years ago pretty much the whole winter was a snow bank. Since then its been fairly mild in the metro area. With UK and Scandinavia getting hit so hard I worry we are next.

Hope all is well with everyone despite the snow. Stay warm, fed and watered.

Busy with new business venture. Entering the Japanese marketplace with some serious physical products for love and sex with a company doing extremely well. Excited about that.

No blizzard here, but we have some snow still. The forecast says it'll stay a week.
It's cold and the problem with that is the energy-prizes. Our genius politicians have made it so, that the energy *we* produce, with *our* own resources is being sold to an European hub of some sort, and then we have to buy it back with insane prices.
It costs like a few cents to produce 1Kw, and currently I'm paying almost a dollar!!! pr Kw!
So I can't afford to heat up my apartment, and I am sitting here with only the light from the screens and a few candles.
The prices are extra bad this week since some Swedish nuclear plants are down for maintenance. I bet you can't see any logic in that, cause there aren't any. |angry||angry||angry||angry||angry|

Is the same madness a problem in Finland too?

My |dog wants to walk, so I guess that's next

Take care

In Ontario, Canada, we pay about 10 US cents a Kw then they add extra bull shit charges like a "delivery charge" and a "debt retirement charge". It might double the price -- maybe 25 cents a Kw -- but no where near a dollar. Wow, that's incredible.

Back from doing a couple of things for my BIL. Now at my desk working. I'll likely be here until dinner then it's TV afterward.

Cheer! |thumb

It's a bit different in the EU. I know we get some electricity from Sweden, but we produce much of our own. We used to get some from Russia but stopped that last spring. The cost of fuel has jumped, so prices increased a bit. We have a new nuclear plant that is supposed to finally be online, but they are still having problems with it. Once that kicks in, our electricity will go down again. We have seen about a 30% increase, though some people have seen 100%. Next month, they are reducing our VAT down from 24% to 10%, so that will be nice. I don't know of anyone who can't pay their heating bills. We have offices in every municipality that help with the bills before it gets to that point because having heat is a health issue here. The Husband and I have always used wood fires to heat our homes, so it doesn't really impact us much. (We stocked way up on wood before the prices went skyhigh.) Our place is about 80 square meters, and we normally spend about 75 Euros (close to dollars) per month. This month it was just over 100 with all charges included. Still not bad.

We are about 30 cents per kwh according to The Husband (who reads Finnish where I don't yet.) We are still affordable. The Husband and I have been talking about going solar in the long run.

That's the stupidity about it, we produce our own electricity from water, this is exported to EU where prices are set on daily basis, and the we *buy back our own* electricity.

So I'm washing clothes, dishes and such at night.

Don't get me wrong, I can pay my bills, but since I'm surrounded by apartments I get a lot of heat from those. So I put on extra clothes and drops the heating myself.

BTW, one month ago we had prices as low as 2 cents, today I pay 0.8$, during next night it will fall to 0.4$ish.
