You_are_dismissed virus. Did you get it?

Just got an email from webmaster@freeones.com with a file attachment called "You_are_dismissed". No text, just the attachment. I've looked at the source and can only see the mentioned reply address - although I'm sure no one would be dumb enough not to mask.

Anyone else get one of these or am I the lucky one?

I was in a good mood before this. It totally fucks me off how malicious some people can be. Let's say my computer gets fucked up. Puts me out of work for a day or two. Why would anyone do that to someone?

If ever I meet a virus-spreader or any other of the numerous breed of cocksuckers, I swear I'll fuck them up.

They are unfortunately getting better at what they do.

Collecting email addys from sites which they know are related and are likely to exchange emails. Or harvesting from message boards where they know people share an interest.

If you are using MS Outlook, it's worth viewing email in plain text mode.
Tools>Options>Read> and check the box for "Read all messages in plain text".

I'm using mozilla unfortunately. Any ideas how I'd switch to plain text mode?

People like this will always amaze me. It must require effort and some degree of intelligence (no matter how misguided) to pull off these stunts. And for what? What's the payoff? I'm lucky enough to have more than one pc and a little cash in case the worst happens. But what about decent webmasters with little money, only one computer, maybe even a family?

No use bitching though I guess.

Mozilla Mail is

View>Message body as>Plain text

but you are a lot safer using Mozilla in the first place coz a virus can't be run like it can be on MS products.

This is new???

Been getting stuff like that for months. It doesn't do anything to my computer but it does clog up my mail with all these crap. |angry|

That's cool, thanks urb! :)

I get them all the time. With the ones I am seeing, anyone who doesn't know better about not opening attachments unless expected from someone you know and is unprotected will be in for a lot of trouble.

Subject: Invoice

Message Body: See attachment for invoice.

Wonder how many businesses fell for that one? Ouch. The virus/worm writers are getting smarter. OTOH, some of the attempts to get me to look at the attachment really crack me up. :)

Btw, watch out for encrypted files (usually zips) of any sort that require a password which is provided. This is a nice way to circumvent the virus scanners. :(

Yup, I received an email from webmaster@thepornbaron.com just the other day with what I assume was an embedded virus. It wasn't an attachment. My antivirus cleaned it and left only his reply address. No subject, no attachment, no text. It was the first one I had like that. I just assumed it was some unhappy soul from my blacklist.

urb,

Thanks for the tip, I still use Outlook cause I'm either too dumb or too cheap to change. I already have it set to delete all atachments but never thought about setting it to view in plain text.

I agree, these %$@& people are getting slicker by the day and for the life of me, I can't see what they get out of it|pissed|
How can it be THAT much fun to screw up peoples machines that you never even see?
