Sponsor Sites and Banners Question

Okay, so I have been doing this for awhile now, and I just gotta ask because it drives me absolutely batty...

Is it an intentional thing that so many banners and paysite tours are filled with typos, and other errors of the grammatical sort???

Just wondering if it is accidental or intentional, since alot of times it's REALLY obvious, and it seems to be all over the place, regardless of who the sponsor is, what niche, etc. Or is it just something that no one really pays attention to, so it just doesn't pay to proofread and spell check things?

I do have to say though that for someone who wanted to be an English teacher at one time, it's almost enough to send you over the edge at times LOL....But, I really am curious....

I think it is more likely due to the fact that when someone is sexually aroused their spelling gets bad.

That or doing this |potleaf| while building web pages. :D

Then again maybe it is just the fact that lots of people are bad spellers.

Or maybe it is just that they don't ProooF reAd theeir PaGGes.

It may have something to do with the fact that many tours and banners are produced in non-English speaking countries.

Not everybody speaks from foreign countries bad English know you.

...you just have to forgive us once in a while :)

I've got an English teacher's degree under my belt and spelling errors bug me as well. I won't use a banner or tour if there's a spelling mistake on it. I think it gives the surfer a bad impression, suggests that the members area will be unprofessional.

As to why it happens, I think it may be partially due to the design process. Having made a few tours and banners myself, I've done it occasionally. You get so focused on how everything looks, you don't notice the errors. With text, you're worrying about the right font, the right size, where to place it... chances are you don't read it properly when you type it in.

Maybe our brains switch to the right side, or go "visual" and it takes over from the bit that pays attention to reading.

Of course, this is no excuse for not proofreading things later...

It all makes sense I suppose. Drives me nuts though. Especially when it only leaves a couple of banners to use out of what looks at first to be a bunch. It does seem that it would reflect badly on the site, but maybe its like what Cleo said. As long as the surfers can take a couple letters and make sense out of it I guess...

I quit using banners a couple years ago. I find using my own text more effective. :)

Jaden 2004-05-19 10:58 AM

I use both alot of text and banners, depending on where it fits design wise. And of course, whether or not the sponsor I'm using for the niche, has usable banners or not LOL.
