"Back" link for surfers?
As I was putting together a free site earlier tonight, I got to wondering about the "back" text link that I always put at the bottom of gallery pages. While I understand the value of having a surfer click that rather than the back button on his/her browser--causing them to see the ad(s) that they'll have to scroll through to get back to where on the page they came from--I also questioned whether this might be giving them an unwarranted option (ie. go back for more free porn rather than click the banner or text ad just above the "back" link to experience the erotic nirvana being offered by my sponsor). Any opinions on whether this rather small detail might make a difference in where a surfer goes next?

Sometimes I use them & sometimes I don't, but it is probably good to have a link that goes back to the 1st page for SE's so that the spiders see that the site is al linked together instead of stand alone pages (if that makes sense)

Makes total sense. I hadn't even thought about it in terms of SE's. It would really suck to have those extra few minutes always spent putting in the keywords, description, and other head stuff negated by the pages not being seen as a unit--thanks for the different perspective!

Let me do say one more thing - don't let these links distract from your pages & ads - make them small & on the bottom & limited as far as the text - "home" & "back" & "next" kind of links.
Don;t make it look like you're trying to scam the SE's because you'll get penalized by them as well as reviewers. |
